Some Good Sam teamwork in action 💪

Our staff spent Wednesday cleaning and putting some extra love into one of our new Phoenixville houses to make it feel a little more like home. 🏠

Only a bit more work to do and we’ll be ready to welcome up to 7 single women facing homelessness into this home and walk beside them on their journey to stability!

Brian checked a big milestone off ✅ He bought himself a bike! 🚲

Just weeks ago, Brian knocked on our door after experiencing homelessness for several months. We were able to move him in immediately, and he hit the ground running.

Within 2 weeks of being in our program, he applied, interviewed, and started his job. With his second paycheck, he bought a bike so he could get back and forth to work, a big accomplishment that he was proud to show our staff!

We are so encouraged by Brian’s hard work and enthusiasm! Let’s give him a big round of applause in the comments. 👏

Last year, through our Outreach Program, we delivered a birthday gift to the tent where JJ was living. This year, we got to deliver his birthday present right to his front door at Good Sam.

Since coming to Good Sam, JJ has gotten a job, achieved over 9 months of sobriety, built meaningful relationships in the community, and most importantly, started believing in himself again.

Now that’s something worth celebrating. 🎉

Boy, did this team do it all! 🤝

We were so blessed by this volunteer crew from LCBC Church who chose to serve at Good Sam for their state-wide Impact Day.

Because of them, our van is shiny clean, the property is mowed, flowers are planted, and our outdoor furniture has a fresh coat of paint. ✨

We can never say thank you enough to volunteers just like them who give up their time to love neighbors in need. 💙 Their service helps us do the important work we do day in and day out!

What a beautiful day celebrating both legacy and new beginnings! 🎉

Thank you to everyone who joined us as we celebrated the transition of our 201 Starr Street home from Phoenixville Women’s Outreach to Good Sam and honored its new name, The Messere House. 🏠

This home represents an important milestone for Good Sam, opening the doors for us to serve women facing homelessness in Phoenixville for the first time, and we are excited to continue expanding critical resources for women in need in our communities.

Our office has been overflowing with donations recently! 📦

These churches and organizations so willingly support our mission and our neighbors facing homelessness, and it’s about time we gave them a shoutout.

➡️St. Mary’s stepped up with a massive food donation! Our participants are always grateful
for food donations like this; it’s a tangible way to meet a very practical need.

➡️Graphic Packaging International donated 10 children’s welcome baskets to bless children whose families are coming into our program!

➡️Our good friends at St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church of Delaware Valley in Malvern are quick to drop off items whenever we need them. This month, we were low on pillows, and they quickly responded with exactly what we needed.

➡️St. John’s Lutheran Church helped us spread some Mother’s Day love with gift bags full of self-care items and chocolate for the moms in our program.

A big thank you to each of these supporters for showing up and caring for our participants!

These young people showed us what compassion truly looks like. 🧡

A huge thank you to the incredible young volunteers from Grains of Wheat who spent their Saturday serving at one of our new Phoenixville locations. Despite the chance of rain, they showed up full of joy and got right to work cleaning up the yard, planting flowers, and mulching. ☔️🌷

One volunteer went above and beyond to take the yard waste to the dump in the back of her truck. Another used his landscaping equipment to trim the bushes and clean all the trimmings up.

Over and over again, their willingness to serve and sincere desire to care for those around them stood out and blew us away. 🤝 Grains of Wheat, thank you for blessing our staff, our space, and our neighbors in need in this special way!

A Mother’s Day story🌷

Just this week, Ashley, a Good Sam graduate and now Good Sam staff member, brought her son through our Ephrata women’s housing on an errand.

When they walked past their former room, her son said, “I remember living here!” As they kept walking the halls, he fondly recalled the time they spent at Good Sam, the first time the little family ever had a safe home.

Ashley came to Good Sam after fleeing from an abusive relationship, and this full-circle moment was a testament to the power of choosing a better future for yourself and your children.

So today, we want to say happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there who are fighting for a brighter future for their children, just like Ashley.

We are inspired by you. 🫶

Thanks to Weaverland Church, the mothers in our program are getting some extra encouragement and joy this Mother’s Day.

Facing homelessness as a mom brings unique challenges and worries, and these gifts are a reminder that they are seen and loved. 🩷
