The final weekend of May resulted in five dispatched incidents for the 55 volunteers. Saturday started off before 4am, when fire police were requested to assist 60 on an incident on Rt 272 near the Pequea / Providence Township line. Fire police were on scene until shortly after 8am. Around 3:30PM, Rescue, followed by the Utility and fire police made the response to a 2 car injury crash, assisting 53, on the 900 bl of Long Lane. Units returned in short order, with minimal fire services required. Shortly after 6:30PM, Engine, followed by the Utility with additional personnel, responded automatic aid on the reported house fire on Chadwick Circle, in the 66 first due. First arriving units from 66 found smoke showing. Engine 55 established a secondary water supply, threw some ladders, and the crew was assigned to the Bravo exposure of the duplex for recon and eventually ventilation.

It's the second Monday of the month, which means tonight is our monthly company business meeting. The meeting starts at 8, and typically doesn't last longer than an hour, usually less. Members will be around by 7. If you have interest in joining the 55 team, stop by, hear what's going on, and talk to our members. We are always happy to talk with area residents who may be prospective new members of NDFC. Whether you'd like to join as an active responder (firefighter or fire police) or perhaps a support member, we'd love to discuss how you might be interested in helping your community. Keep in mind - we all started somewhere. No prior experience is necessary to join. Training and equipment expenses are covered - we just ask for some of your time and dedication.

We don’t have an over abundance of businesses in our first due, which is, for the most part, suburban and agricultural. That said, the businesses that we do have are supportive neighbors. Restoration Tractor Sales on Church Rd recently held a large auction, mostly tractors and tractor accessories. A gentleman who is not known to us donated a toy pedal tractor to be sold at the auction, with the proceeds to go to a volunteer fire company. Thank you to the donor and to Restoration Tractor. The proceeds were split between us and Robert Fulton Fire Company, as one of their mechanics is active with 89. Support from the community is always appreciated.

PROSPECTIVE NEW MEMBERS: We will be at the firehouse this evening from 7 til 930 or so, doing some training activities. If you're local and have interest in joining, tonight would be a great time to stop by, meet some of the crew, and let us answer any questions you might have about joining.

Coming soon - Fire Boat 55 !!!

As the northern border of our first due is the mighty Conestoga River, the chiefs and line officers have finally convinced our Board of Directors to purchase a much needed fire boat. This unit will remained docked at the Circle M campground for quick responses both up and down the river. We ask that kayakers and tubers please keep back 500 feet.

We are considering allowing our friends and neighbors at the Pequea Township Police Department to use it on occasion for river patrols and fishing expeditions.

We will evaluate the effectiveness of this unit next year, on April 1.

A special Thank You to Andy and the team at the Circle M RV & Camping Resort for hosting an emergency services familiarization event in advance of the camping season. Local Fire, EMS, and PTPD personnel were provided with dinner and an opportunity to engage with staff, review procedures, and conduct a campground tour. Many individuals are unaware of the complexities that large camping facilities pose for emergency services, particularly given that the resort increases the township's population by approximately 25% when operating at full capacity. Such preparatory and familiarization sessions are essential for ensuring effective collaboration and response to emergencies, ultimately enhancing the safety of all individuals involved. Thanks to Andy and Circle M for taking the proactive support to work with us. We always appreciate a positive working relationship with our area business partners working together to keep everyone safe.

Rechargeable lithium-ion battery incident in New Danville:

NDFC personnel were made aware of a fire involving a lithium-ion battery at a residence in the 55 first due. The incident occurred on the evening of February 28. An aftermarket battery for a hobby drone had been plugged into the charger, which was original equipment from the drone kit. The battery was charging on a kitchen counter in the residence when it suddenly began burning. Fortunately, the residents were in the room where this occurred, and were able to take immediate action to extinguish the fire and removing the item from the house, where it did reignite. Although this fire had only burned freely for a very short time, the battery and charger were completely destroyed, and damage occurred to the wall, wood trim, and countertop. We believe that had this fire not been immediately detected and extinguished, the residence would have sustained significant damage.

Use extreme caution when charging LI batteries, especially aftermarket models, which can often be found at lower prices than original equipment replacements. Other safety tips from FEMA include:

- store spare LI batteries away from anything that can burn
- keep LI batteries out of direct sunlight
- do not charge any batteries which may appear damaged

Search "thermal runaway" to learn more on the topic of extreme heat being generated by defective battery components.

Thanks Rhoadstar Tire & Service Center for the quick repair. Fortunately it was just a valve stem issue.

Tuesday activities at 55. We started the day off around 0515, with the rescue engine responding automatic aid to Lancaster Township Fire Department for an investigation. Shortly after 9, tanker was due on the 90 (Blue Rock) building fire assignment. Initial arriving units handled a small fire in an agricultural structure. Upon arrival, tanker pumped off about 1500 gallons through Engine 80 (Columbia) which was the supply engine at the end of the lane. Tanker was filled at a site manned by Rescue 66, and then cleared from the incident. Around 5:20 PM, 55 units and Fire Police handled a single vehicle crash, car vs utility pole, along the 400 bl Long Lane. Upon leaving the vehicle crash, fire police proceeded to the Long Ln / Millwood intersection to assist Pequea Township Police Department with traffic control due to an issue with the traffic light. As of around 8:45 PM, all units are clear.

100% volunteer personnel!!! We could use you! If you live in the area, get in touch with us and see where you could get plugged in as a member at 55.
