Due to the potential for severe weather, the Lancaster County Government Offices, Courts, and Convenience Centers will be closing today at 1:00pm.

Update on the April 21, 2026 Special Election

The Virginia Department of Elections (ELECT) has reviewed the recent order issued by the Tazewell Circuit Court regarding the April 21, 2026 Special Election. The court’s order applies only to the named defendants in the case, including local election officials in Tazewell County, ELECT, and the State Board of Elections. The February 20th request to pause has been withdrawn. Parties not named in the lawsuit may continue their efforts in support of the election. We will share updates if additional information becomes available.

At this time, the April 21, 2026 Special Election remains pending (ballot printing is halted). We must receive approval from the Court and the Virginia Department of Elections before proceeding.
Updates will be provided as soon as we are formally notified.

SPECIAL ELECTION: 4/21/26 FOR ALL VIRGINIA LOCALITIES ⚠️
During the 2026 Regular Session of the General Assembly, legislators passed and the Governor signed House Bill 1384 designating a Proposed Constitutional Amendment question to be presented to Virginia voters in an April 21, 2026, Special Election.
Here's the question voters will be deciding:

"Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia's standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?"
