Yesterday our Mounted Response Unit saddled up for a full‑scale training scenario, putting both our horses and ground personnel to the test! These exercises sharpen our skills, strengthen teamwork, and prepare us for real‑world missions where every minute matters.
After a quick briefing, the team saddled up, packed their gear, and launched their mission at 2:21 PM. Their task: search a 100‑acre tract for 12 clues, an elderly subject with mild dementia, and a 10‑year‑old autistic child. We added two unexpected twists, and the team handled each challenge with precision and confidence—finishing the entire mission in just 2 hours and 6 minutes!

Lancaster County Coroner's Office Mounted Response Unit volunteers joined fellow first responders for specialized training with Sheryl “Mac” McCollum of Atlanta, GA.

Sheryl McCollum serves as the Assistant Commander of the LCCO Mounted Response Unit and brings extensive experience as a crime analyst, professor, and having worked on numerous high-profile criminal cases nationwide.

Her presentation, “From Crime Scene to Courtroom: What Happens After the Body Is Found,” provided insight into investigative procedures and the legal process that follows a death investigation.

These collaborative trainings strengthen public safety, investigative readiness, and our commitment to serving the Lancaster County community under Coroner Karla Deese.

We appreciate the continued support and collaboration of our fellow agencies. Strong partnerships make stronger communities.

Forensics inspired by football? We think yes!!! You have to stay mounted on your horse, but if you see something you have to flag it; but how? 🤔

Phase 1: Wait, did you say “flag”? How about throwable flags just like football referees have?? 🏈

Phase 2: How are we going to make them?💡

Phase 3: Uncle Paul to the rescue! He is an 89 year old who proudly volunteers his time and ideas for our team🧡🐴
