Sixth Circuit Public Defender's Office Criminal defense of indigent adults and juveniles in Chester, Lancaster, and Fairfield counties of South Carolina

The Sixth Circuit Public Defender's Office provides legal representation for people facing criminal charges in Chester, Lancaster, and Fairfield counties. We have offices located in each of the three county courthouses. The street address and phone numbers for those offices are as follows:

In order to apply for a public defender, you must bring a copy of your warrants along with a $40 application fee to the Clerk of Court's Office in the county where you have been charged. The Clerk's Office is located in the county courthouse also.

After a total of 30 years “before the bar” 6th Circuit Chief Public Defender Mike Lifsey is retiring. His last official day was June 1st. He is succeeded in his post by William Frick as the 6th Circuit Public Defender.
