forts. Our traffic safety education programs are offered in local schools and at community events on a continual basis in an effort to educate the public. These educational programs combined with our enforcement efforts are designed to prevent collisions, thereby reducing the tragic loss of life and serious injuries caused by unsafe driving. Programs such as:

• Start Smart (a program for new teen drivers and parents);
• Every 15 Minutes (a program to raise awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence at local high schools)
• Impact Teen Drivers (a program for teens and their parents to address the dangers of driving reckless, distracted or while under the influence)
• Age Well Drive Smart (a program for senior drivers) are designed to educate the public and help reduce the number of tragedies caused by traffic collisions.
• Free child safety seat instruction/demonstrations for anyone who transports children younger than 8 years old or under 4’9” tall. The Antelope Valley Area is proud to be a thriving Explorer post which is designed for young men and women between the ages of 15 and 21 who are interested in a career in law enforcement. We also have an outstanding Senior Volunteer Program for members of our community who are 55 or older and would like to volunteer their time to assist CHP employees in the performance of their duties. The California Highway Patrol Antelope Valley Area is honored to join our local public safety partners and community for a Remembrance Ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

We invite our community to join us as we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, honor the first responders who answered the call, and recognize the courage, sacrifice, and unity demonstrated in the days that followed.

August is Back-to-School Safety Month, and as students return to the classroom, we all have a role in helping them get there safely.

- Slow down and obey posted speed limits in school zones.
- Stop for school buses when required.
- Watch for children crossing the street, especially near schools and bus stops.
- Put the phone away and stay focused behind the wheel.
- Give students walking and riding bicycles plenty of space.

School zones will once again be busy with students, parents, school buses, and pedestrians. A few extra seconds of patience and caution can make all the difference.

Slow down. Stay alert. Help us keep every trip to and from school a safe one.

Palmdale to the San Fernando Valley… on pocket bikes?

CHP officers recently contacted four juveniles, ages 14, 15, 15, and 16, riding pocket bikes on Angeles Forest Highway. The group was attempting to make the trip from Palmdale to the San Fernando Valley.

While we can appreciate the sense of adventure, pocket bikes are not street legal and operating them on a public roadway creates a serious safety risk—especially on a highway where motorists may be traveling at significantly higher speeds.

All four juveniles were cited and the pocket bikes were impounded.

Parents and caregivers, please take a moment to talk with young riders about where these vehicles can legally and safely be operated. What seems like a fun ride can quickly turn into a dangerous situation.

Adventure is great. Just make sure it’s a safe and legal one.

Strengthening partnerships that help us better serve our community.

The CHP Antelope Valley Area recently welcomed Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman for a conversation with our personnel about the important partnership between law enforcement and prosecutors.

During an open Q&A, our officers had the opportunity to discuss case filings, courtroom processes, and ways we can continue working together to strengthen communication and improve the criminal justice process.

We appreciate District Attorney Hochman taking the time to meet with our team, answer questions, and provide valuable insight. Strong communication and collaboration with our justice partners help us better serve the communities of the Antelope Valley.

Driving too slow can be just as dangerous as driving too fast.

California Vehicle Code section 21654(a) requires vehicles traveling slower than the normal speed of traffic to use the right-hand lane. Remaining in the left lane while traveling significantly slower than surrounding traffic can lead to congestion, unsafe passing maneuvers, and an increased risk of crashes.

As part of our Summer Traffic Safety Initiative, CHP Antelope Valley will continue focusing enforcement on driving behaviors that create unnecessary hazards and compromise the safety of everyone on our roadways.

Help us keep the Antelope Valley moving safely: Keep right if you’re traveling slower than the normal flow of traffic, obey posted speed limits, and stay aware of the vehicles around you.

Your concerns are being heard.

Throughout the summer, the CHP Antelope Valley Area will be conducting targeted enforcement on State Route 14, State Route 138, and in active construction zones to address dangerous driving behaviors that put our community at risk.

This initiative is about more than enforcement, it’s about reducing crashes and making our roads safer for everyone.

Fire Advisory – SR-138 / Fort Tejon Area

CHP Antelope Valley officers are currently assisting with a rapidly spreading vegetation fire in the area of State Route 138 near 248th Street East / Fort Tejon Road.

Fire personnel from multiple agencies are on scene working aggressively to contain the fire. Motorists should expect an increased emergency vehicle presence, potential roadway closures, and delays in the surrounding area.

If you are traveling through the area:
- Slow down and move over for emergency vehicles.
- Obey all road closures and traffic control personnel.
- Avoid the area if possible and seek an alternate route.
- Do not stop along the roadway to take photos or videos, as it creates additional hazards and interferes with emergency operations.

Residents should remain alert, monitor official updates, and be prepared to leave if evacuation orders are issued by local authorities.

The California Highway Patrol will continue to assist our fire partners and provide traffic control to help ensure the safety of the public and emergency responders.
