For emergencies, call 9-1-1 The Antelope Valley CHP is dedicated to keeping each of our residents and visitors as safe as possible. We are committed to saving lives by preventing traffic collisions before they happen through education and enforcement ef

forts. Our traffic safety education programs are offered in local schools and at community events on a continual basis in an effort to educate the public. These educational programs combined with our enforcement efforts are designed to prevent collisions, thereby reducing the tragic loss of life and serious injuries caused by unsafe driving. Programs such as:

• Start Smart (a program for new teen drivers and parents);
• Every 15 Minutes (a program to raise awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence at local high schools)
• Impact Teen Drivers (a program for teens and their parents to address the dangers of driving reckless, distracted or while under the influence)
• Age Well Drive Smart (a program for senior drivers) are designed to educate the public and help reduce the number of tragedies caused by traffic collisions.
• Free child safety seat instruction/demonstrations for anyone who transports children younger than 8 years old or under 4’9” tall. The Antelope Valley Area is proud to be a thriving Explorer post which is designed for young men and women between the ages of 15 and 21 who are interested in a career in law enforcement. We also have an outstanding Senior Volunteer Program for members of our community who are 55 or older and would like to volunteer their time to assist CHP employees in the performance of their duties. We are very committed to our community and pride ourselves on the relationships we build and maintain.

🚨 Pursuit Recap 🚨

Earlier today, officers from the Los Angeles Police Department attempted to stop a stolen traffic control truck. The driver failed to yield, leading officers on a pursuit that transitioned onto the freeway, where CHP assumed control.

The pursuit traveled from Hollywood through the Antelope Valley, ultimately coming to an end in Mojave after Antelope Valley personnel successfully deployed spike strips.

The driver was taken into custody without further incident, and the stolen vehicle was safely recovered.

🚔 Teamwork across agencies played a critical role in bringing this incident to a safe conclusion.

Palmdale, California – On April 2, 2026, the California Highway Patrol, in conjunction with The Palmdale Aerospace Academy, will be conducting a simulated drunk driving traffic crash as part of The Every 15 Minutes program. The crash will be staged on 35th Street East, south of Palmdale Boulevard, and will begin at approximately 10:00 a.m. The mock collision will take place for approximately one hour; however, the roadway will be closed for several hours to allow the scene set-up and breakdown. During the mock traffic crash there will be a high concentration of emergency vehicles in the area. We would like to ensure that the public is aware this is a mock emergency incident, and that no real emergency actually exists.

Every 15 Minutes is a two-day program which demonstrates to high school students the impact drinking and driving has on friends, families, and their community. The first day of the program is highlighted by a simulated traffic collision that will be conducted at the high school involving an impaired teenage driver, fatalities, and injured victims. The event includes emergency responses from the police, fire, ambulance, coroner, and tow truck companies, just as an actual traffic crash would require. The program will conclude with an assembly for the students on April 3, 2026.

This event is conducted by the California Highway Patrol, with the support from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department, American Medical Response (AMR), Michael D. Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse, Antelope Valley Medical Center, and many other community partners and affiliates.

All media inquiries should be forwarded to Officer Anthony Talavera at the Antelope Valley Area Office of the California Highway Patrol.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The mission of the California Highway Patrol is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security to the people of California.

🚨 Carpool Lane Enforcement & DUI Safety Reminder 🚨

Officers recently contacted a driver who was traveling solo in an active carpool (HOV) lane while smoking ma*****na, creating a dangerous situation for everyone on the roadway.

🚗 Carpool Lane Law Reminder:
The California Clean Air Vehicle (CAV) decal program ended on September 30, 2025. This means solo drivers — including those in previously qualifying low-emission vehicles — are no longer permitted to use HOV lanes during posted hours unless they meet the occupancy requirement. Drivers who violate HOV lane rules may be subject to citation.

🌿 Impaired Driving Reminder:
Although ma*****na is legal in the State of California, it is illegal to drive while under the influence of ma*****na. Impairment can slow reaction time, affect judgment, and significantly increase the risk of a crash.

⚠️ Driving under the influence of ma*****na is dangerous and can result in arrest for DUI.

Make responsible choices behind the wheel:
✔️ Follow posted HOV lane occupancy requirements
✔️ Never drive impaired
✔️ Plan ahead for a safe ride home

Stay alert. Stay compliant. Arrive alive. 🚔

🚨 CHP Antelope Valley Enforcement Update 🚨

This morning between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM, CHP Antelope Valley personnel conducted traffic enforcement in an active construction zone with workers present.

During this time, officers issued more than 20 citations to drivers traveling in excess of the posted 55 MPH zone, with a top speed of 105 miles per hour. Additionally, two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence.

⚠️ Construction Zone Safety Reminder:
Construction workers are someone’s family member, friend, or loved one. They rely on drivers to slow down, stay alert, and move over when possible. Speeding and impaired driving in construction zones greatly increase the risk of serious or fatal crashes.

🚧 Slow down. Stay focused. Save a life.

🚨 Speed Enforcement on SR-14 🚨

Officers from the CHP Antelope Valley Area recently conducted a Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) operation along State Route 14 targeting excessive speed and dangerous driving behaviors. During this focused enforcement effort, officers monitored traffic flow, contacted violators, and took enforcement action to help improve safety for everyone traveling through the corridor.

Speed remains one of the leading factors in serious and fatal crashes. Choosing to slow down can make the difference between arriving safely or becoming involved in a life-changing collision.

✅ Safety Reminder: Obey posted speed limits, stay alert, and give yourself extra time to reach your destination. Safe driving saves lives — including your own.
