Have unwanted, unused, or expired medications at home?

Counseling Services of Lancaster offers FREE ELEMENT® Medication Disposal Kits at our agency and community events to help community members safely dispose of medications at home.

Using the kit is simple:

✔️ Place unwanted medications in the pouch
✔️ Add water and seal the pouch
✔️ Shake vigorously
✔️ Dispose of the sealed pouch in your household trash

Each pouch can safely dispose of up to 250 pills (based on 200 mg ibuprofen tablets) and works with capsules, tablets, liquids, and more.

Please note: These kits should not be used for radioactive pharmaceuticals, chemotherapy drugs, or effervescent medications.

Safe medication disposal helps prevent accidental poisonings, misuse, and medications from falling into the wrong hands.

Stop by our agency or visit us at a community event to pick up a FREE disposal kit.

Stigma can create barriers that keep people from reaching out for help. It can lead to shame, isolation, and fear of being judged — all of which can make substance use worse and delay recovery.

In fact, only about 1 in 10 people with a substance use disorder receive treatment in a given year. Fear of judgment and stigma are common reasons people don’t seek the help they need.

When people feel judged or misunderstood, they may be less likely to talk openly about their struggles or access support — which can have serious, even life-threatening consequences.

Substance use disorder is a medical condition — not a moral failure. Like any health condition, it deserves compassion, understanding, and care.

Ending stigma starts with us. The words we use, the way we listen, and how we treat others all matter.

At Counseling Services of Lancaster, we are committed to providing compassionate, judgment-free support for individuals and families in our community.

Support, not stigma, saves lives.

Safe medication storage is an important step in preventing accidental poisonings, misuse, and unauthorized access by children, teens, and others in the home.

Keeping medications secured can help reduce the risk of them falling into the wrong hands while ensuring they are available when needed.

That's why Counseling Services of Lancaster provides FREE prescription medication locking containers at our agency and community events.

A simple step like locking up medications can make a big difference in protecting your family and our community.

Stop by and see us to pick up a free locking container.

Why do so many people struggle to ask for help?

Fear of judgment, shame, stigma, and the pressure to “handle it alone” can keep people from reaching out — even when they’re struggling.

In this blog, we discuss some of the barriers that often prevent people from seeking support and how counseling can help break the cycle by providing connection, guidance, and a place to heal and grow.

Healing can start with one conversation.
