Its Scipio Smith day Lancaster.

Scipio Smith was the first black business owner in Lancaster Ohio. He was a former slave who received his freedom on May 29th, 1821. He opened a church where he provided schooling for black residents, and opened a tinsmith shop. Today, May 29th, we honor him, as he set the path for those who'd come after him. You can visit this statue in Lancaster on Main street between the Glass Museum and the Municipal Court building. It is a very inspiring piece.

Stop by the statue today while you're out and honor a free man who was dedicated to making an impact in his community.
