FIRST hosted FDLE Class 63 Florida Leadership Academy. Across a four week class, graduates from agencies across the state of Florida, including two Pasco Sheriff’s Office representatives, came together to learn and apply themes of leadership skills, problem solving, financial objectives and varied management styles in order to not only take on leadership positions in their communities, but to also foster stronger connections through these same communities.

This class represents one of the guiding principles behind F1RST — collaboration. Through combined efforts, we can share ideas, enhance communication with other agencies to increase safety during joint operations.

Unmanned aerial systems are enhancing emergency personnel’s response capabilities, and F1RST is excited to be a part of this innovative evolution. We’re hosting an Advanced Aerial Search Techniques course November 19-20.

The class focuses on search and recovery practices for the varying complexities first responders encounter during these operations, such as deploying at night. Additionally, participants can apply their new knowledge with practice flight scenarios and real-world incident debriefs. See the flyer to learn more!

🚁 K9s dedicate their lives to the safety of others, and they deserve the same level of care in return. ❤️‍🩹

Tampa General Hospital (TGH) recently held a series of its Aeromed K9 Treatment and Transport courses at our F1RST facilities. This dynamic, entirely free course explored the vital aspects of K9 safety and the essential medical care these brave animals require when injured in the line of duty. Trainers simulated various complex medical procedures using K9 manikins, giving the attendees a realistic look at how to apply these techniques themselves. A TGH helicopter also flew in for the course, which included a demonstration with one of PSO's K9s boarding the aircraft.

Thank you to TGH for providing this invaluable training to help keep our four-legged heroes safe.

Better together 🤝

You know what they say: there is strength in unity. Pasco Sheriff’s Office’s Hostage Negotiators experienced this for themselves in a recent Team Building Workshop. The course consisted of a presentation on how to most effectively meet strategic goals through communication, group brainstorming, and decision-making. The class then put their new knowledge to the test through team-building activities to reinforce the concepts covered during the presentation.

Our Hostage Negotiations Team responds to high-intensity calls where their assistance can mean the difference between life and death for those involved. These trainings enhance their ability to work collaboratively, minimizing risk and helping dangerous situations reach a peaceful resolution.

Join us August 3–7, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., for an in‑depth, hands‑on training led by subject matter expert Anna M. Cox, MFS, with Cox Forensic Consulting and Training, LLC.

This course allows students to advance the basic bloodstain pattern analysis skills they acquired in the prerequisite class. It is eligible for 40 IAI Certification Hours.

🕯️ Shining a light in the darkest moments. 🫂

The International Conference of Police Chaplains recently held a Basic Chaplain Training at our F1RST facility. In this training, attendees learned the essentials of law enforcement chaplaincy, including responding to call-outs, understanding stress, addressing agency incidents, and more. A chaplain's presence provides much-needed support to those undergoing a crisis. Participants experienced this firsthand through a scenario exercise where they put their new knowledge to the test. We're grateful to the instructors and students who are helping those in need with compassion.

Houses of worship are typically known for their welcoming environments; however, this openness can also make them vulnerable to potential threats. Recently, F1RST hosted a House of Worship Threat Awareness Training Course, where we explored these concerns and helped participants cultivate a security mindset.

Around 70 individuals participated in the course, which focused on key qualities to consider when selecting a safety team, effective communication strategies, and recognizing behaviors that may indicate criminal activity. The course also featured a panel discussion with local faith leaders and security teams from various places of worship.

We all have a responsibility to keep our community safe and to speak up when we notice something wrong. This is the "We Fight As One" mindset, which is why PSO chose it as our motto. We're grateful to everyone who joined this course and to those who support our mission to protect the community.

F1RST recently coordinated a Hazardous Materials Technician course taught by Pasco County Fire Rescue, during which first responders learned to respond to hazardous-material scenes.

This comprehensive course provided participants with two weeks of online instruction, followed by two weeks of hands-on field training where they practiced identifying incident types through observation, atmospheric monitoring, and reference research. Through a mock exercise, trainees put their new knowledge to the test by operating full-scale incident command and decontamination facilities.

This training highlights the importance of critical decision-making and the technical skills required during these toxic situations. F1RST is hosting another FREE threat awareness training for faith leaders and places of worship.

After the success of our last training, bringing in over 100 attendees, we're thrilled to continue our focus on security practices for places of worship.

This new training will dive deeper into the evolving threats our country faces today, including terrorism, and will cover how to conduct risk assessments to develop an effective security plan. Participants will have the opportunity to voice their concerns, ask questions, and receive valuable resources.
