Signs, signs, almost everywhere is signs.

You may have noticed some truck restriction signs installed on several Township roads this week. Over the last few months, we have been working with our traffic engineer to look at both existing and warranted truck/weight restrictions.

Several Township roads that previously had truck restrictions on them were removed. Those roads include Starr, Ellicott, Penn Green (between Baltimore Pike and Route 41), and Polo.

During the evaluation of roads, it was recommended and ultimately approved by the Board of Supervisors to implement additional restrictions on various roads. Signs have been installed along those roads to notify the traveling public of the changes.

Effective immediately, it is unlawful for anyone to operate a motor vehicle in the form of a truck with a trailer over 45 feet in length on:

Chambers Road between Hillendale Road to the railroad tracks
Hillendale Road between Newark Road to Scarlett Road
New Garden Road the entire length
Scarlett Road between Hillendale Road and South Street
Thompson Road between Baltimore Pike and Hillendale Road

Additionally, it is unlawful for anyone to operate a motor vehicle over 13 tons (26,000 lbs.) on:

New Garden Road between Route 41 & Bucktoe/Newark Roads
Scarlett Road between Hillendale Road and South Street
Thompson Road between Baltimore Pike and Hillendale Road

Local deliveries are exempt from the restrictions provided the delivery is on the exact road the truck is on. However the truck can not use another restricted road to get to a second road that is restricted to make a delivery.

Just a quick update on the road work for Hillendale Road. All of the pipe work requiring the road to be closed was completed, ahead of schedule. We will not be closing the road Thursday, June 18 as indicated on the signs.

There is still some work at the two recently completed pipe replacement locations but that work will be flagged and no closures are expected.

Now for the big question... "When will Hillendale be paved?" In talking with the contractor, they are expecting to start our paving program in early August. That could change depending on a number of factors and we will keep everyone updated as information is available. The roads being paved this year, in no particular order, are the remainder of Hillendale (Thompson Road to Scarlett Road), New Garden Road from Newark Road to Route 41 (Penn Green Road side), and the entire length of Old Limestone. Again, no firm schedule is available but when we know, you will know.

We would like to thank everyone for you patience during the road closures. There will be more, but we promise, they will be well worth it.

⚠️⚠️Final Hillendale Road Closure!! ⚠️⚠️

In preparation of the upcoming paving project later this summer, Hillendale Road between Sharp Road and Sunrise Drive will be closed to through traffic today.

The closure is expected from 6:00AM to 6:00PM to allow us to replace a pipe. We will provide an update when the roadway has been reopened.

Provided everything goes right today, we should not need to close the road tomorrow as indicated on the signs.

In talking to the contractor, it looks like late July or early August when they will be in to start paving Hillendale. More to come as the schedule gets ironed out.

Please seek alternate routes of travel during the closure and allow extra time to get to your destination.

Long term Road Closure on Broad Run Road between Buttonwood Road and Newark Road.

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will begin on Monday, June 1, on a project to replace the bridge that carries Broad Run Road over Broad Run Creek in New Garden Township, Chester County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Monday, June 1, through Wednesday, September 30, Broad Run Road will be closed and detoured 24/7 between Buttonwood Road and Eden Road. During the closure, motorists are directed to use Buttonwood Road and Newark Road.
Local access will be maintained. Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, the existing 95-year-old single span, one-lane concrete encased steel I-beam structure will be replaced four rolled steel beams. The current bridge is 38 feet long, 19.5 feet wide and carries more than 2,100 vehicles per day. The new bridge will be widened to accommodate two 10 feet travel lanes from a single lane of traffic on the existing bridge. In addition to the increased travel width, 32 feet tall concrete barriers will be place along with new approach slabs/moment slabs to accommodate new barrier transitions.

Additional work under this project includes paving to match the existing roadway heights and replacing approach guiderail.

The current structure is listed in poor condition.

This repair work is part of a $4.2 million project to replace several structures in Bucks and Chester counties.

C. Abbonizio Contractors, Inc. of New Jersey. is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,200 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.

This weekend's snow storm is expected to bring a lot of heavy wet snow to the area. Please be careful while shoveling snow to prevent back or muscle injuries as well as heart attacks. Shovel small amounts to avoid these serious health concerns.

Additionally, we know what heavy wet snow means. Heavy wet snow and plowing operations means that mailboxes are much more likely to be knocked down. We promise that we are not targeting anyone's mailbox. Unfortunately, it is something that happens. Please review the attached pages to better understand the Township's snow removal policies and some Frequently Asked Questions. The information can also be found on our website at https://www.newgarden.org/DocumentCenter/View/154/FAQ---Snow-Removal-PDF?bidId=.
