I took took a six month break from FB, but not from state parks. I just broke the 100 mark with 103/124 parks and 19/20 state forests! This page has been my photo record, but I've also been keeping a log book. I'll be updating my latest adventures shortly. 🌲🐻🥾🚣‍♀️🛖

White Clay Creek Preserve is the PA side of Delaware's White Clay Creek State Park. This was my return trip to check the official box on the PA map. I hiked four miles on the Tri-State Marker Trail, which includes a little spot where you can stand in PA/MD/DE. The dirt trail is mostly shaded and climbs up and down and over several little bridges. There's a few confusing intersections and you'll cross back and forth across state lines, but it's mostly well marked and enjoyable.

Frances Slocum has lots of amenities and parking lots and was our last stop on our nine park weekend. We hiked two miles on the Deer Trail from the lower parking lot. Dirt trail with hunting signs, so we put on our orange vests. Fairly dense, quiet woods with some inclines and little bridges. Park 70 out of 124... I'm officially over halfway there!

❤️ Salt Springs was our last stop on Day 2. We hiked about two miles starting with a very steep climb up the Gorge Trail that overlooks a large waterfall. We could hear a chorus of cows mooing at an unseen farm nearby and the combination with the woods and the scenery made for a unique experience. Through the connecting trails, there were bridges and boardwalks with an overlook and a boulder with pennies crushed into it. There's a window-like view of another forest that's miles away from the forest we were standing in that felt surreal. Or perhaps it was the altitude and the arduous climb! Once down off the mountain, we saw the little natural spring and an herb garden by the house. I truly loved this place.

Mt Pisguah State Park was the second stop of the day. We hiked about three miles on the Oh! Susannah Trail through woods, fields, around a lake and the pavement before having a picnic lunch by the park office. It's a popular place, with lots of amenities and visitors.

❤️ Vosburg Neck State Park was our first stop on Day 2 and definitely a favorite! The drive there took us by farms bordered by mountains with a mist rising up in the chilly autumn air. We arrived to a big red barn and the crystal clear water of the Susquehanna River. It's such a peaceful, beautiful place. After exploring the riverbank a bit, we hiked about a mile on the River Trail.

❤️ Lackawanna State Park was our fourth stop where we stayed in a camping cottage in the busy campground. The bathroom was a bit of a walk, but the other campers of all ages were so happy and respectful and each site felt relatively private with trees in between. It was a much better experience than the Little Buffalo campground and the cottage was clean and well maintained. There's a large lake with boating and people walking the trails around it.

Prompton State Park mostly features a dam and a disc golf course. We couldn't seem to find the trails from the boat launch parking, so we drove down to the Army Corps of Engineers area. We wandered around the park and through doors in the dam for about a mile before heading to our campground.

Varden Conservation Area was our second stop, where we had lunch on a picnic table by the water before we walked the 3/4 mile Pond Loop Trail. There's not much shade, but it's a peaceful little place with lots of fish and tadpoles and frogs.

Promised Land was the first stop on a weekend camping trip in northeastern PA. We hiked one mile on the Little Falls Trail in the Lower Lake section of the park. This dirt trail has lots of roots and rocks and loops through a shaded and quiet forest by a creek with a couple bridges and little waterfalls. I loved the ferns and the moss on the boulders and the trees.
