🚨 COMMUNITY NOTICE 🚨

The Lander Police Department would like to advise our community that the donation letter some residents and businesses may be receiving regarding child safety and drug prevention educational materials is legitimate and authorized by the Lander Police Department.

The letter is part of a partnership with the National Child Safety Council (NCSC) to help provide child safety, drug prevention, and senior safety educational materials to members of our community.

Donations made through the program help support the cost of these educational resources and are processed through the National Child Safety Council, a nonprofit organization that works with law enforcement agencies nationwide.

We appreciate the continued support of our community as we work to provide valuable safety education programs for children, families, and seniors throughout Lander.

At the Lander Police Department, we are proud of the incredible work performed every day by our School Resource Officers (SROs), Officer Jake Conilogue and Officer Jason Cox.

As highlighted by the Lander Journal, Officer Conilogue serves at Lander Valley High School, while Officer Cox supports students and staff at Lander Middle School, Pathfinder High School, and Gannett Peak Elementary School. Their presence in our schools represents a strong partnership between the Lander Police Department and Fremont County School District #1.

While many people think of SROs as law enforcement officers assigned to schools, their role is so much more. They are mentors, educators, problem-solvers, counselors, and trusted adults who build positive relationships with students every day. Whether they are helping a student through a difficult situation, teaching safety lessons, supporting school staff, or simply providing a friendly face in the hallway, their impact reaches far beyond traditional policing.

SROs play a vital role in creating safe learning environments while helping students develop trust, confidence, and positive connections with law enforcement. They are often the first person a student turns to for guidance, support, or encouragement.

We are grateful for Officer Conilogue and Officer Cox and the dedication, compassion, and professionalism they bring to our schools each day. Their commitment helps make our schools safer, stronger, and more connected communities.

Thank you, Jake and Jason, for the difference you make in the lives of our students, staff, and families. Your work matters, and Lander is better because of it.

We would like to honor Officer Ryan Pieracini on 7 years of service with the city of Lander. Ryan fills a number of roles for us including fi****ms instructor, but most importantly the bike safety work that he has done with the community and the Elks club obtaining helmets and icecream cards for kids with helmets. This is a true testament to the deep passion for the job and his care of our community. Thank you Officer Pieracini for all you do for the department and the community of Lander.

From August 19 through September 7, 2026, the Lander Police Department will participate in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 𝘋𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘚𝘰𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘳 𝘎𝘦𝘵 𝘗𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘖𝘷𝘦𝘳 campaign. As part of the annual high-visibility enforcement campaign, law enforcement officers in Lander and across the country will increase patrols from Aug. 19 through Labor Day to identify and stop impaired drivers.
In 2024, 30% of all U.S. traffic fatalities involved an alcohol-impaired driver, claiming 11,904 lives. Although alcohol-impaired driving deaths decreased by nearly 4% in 2024, an average of one person still died every 44 minutes in an alcohol-impaired-driving crash. 2024 is the last year for which figures are available.

What a great way to wrap up summer! A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the End of Summer Bash possible, to the community for your incredible support, and to everyone who came out to enjoy the day with us!

We’re especially thankful for the relationships we’ve built and the way our local agencies, families, and community continue to come together to make Lander stronger. It truly takes a community—and we’re grateful for ours!

As summer winds down and school starts soon, let’s keep that community spirit going by looking out for our students and pedestrians.

🚸 School zone safety improvements are coming soon:

New, highly visible thermoplastic crosswalks will be added at eight school-area crosswalks.
New stop signs will be installed at Smith Street & Academic Way and North 8th Street & Clinchard Street to help slow traffic and improve safety.
And just to be clear: there are NO cameras on these stop signs. They are simply traffic-calming and safety improvements.

Please slow down in school zones, follow posted signs, and stay alert for students and pedestrians.

School Zone Safety Improvements Coming Soon 🚸

Over the next week, several improvements will be made to local school zones to increase pedestrian safety and help slow traffic.

🚸 Thermoplastic crosswalks will be added at eight school-area crosswalks for better visibility and durability.

🛑 New stop signs will be installed at:

Smith Street & Academic Way
North 8th Street & Clinchard Street

Please note: There are NO cameras on these stop signs. They are simply traffic-calming and safety improvements.

🎉💦 WHAT A WAY TO KICK OFF THE SCHOOL YEAR! 💦🎉

Today’s End of Summer Bash in Lander was packed with fun, smiles, and plenty of community spirit! 📚✏️

And the kids definitely didn’t miss their chance to make a splash — especially when they got to dunk none other than Lander Chief of Police Kelly Waugh! 👮‍♂️💦😂

A huge thank-you to everyone who came out to celebrate our kids and help make this event such a fun start to the new school year. It was a great reminder that our community comes together to support and celebrate our youngest members.
