This event is a great opportunity to meet members of your local public safety and community organizations, learn more about the services they provide, and spend time together building an even stronger Lander community.

A special thank you to our partners from the Fremont County Sheriff's Office, Lander Fire Department, Fremont County EMS, Lander Parks & Recreation, Fremont County School District, and the Wyoming Army National Guard for helping make this event possible.

We want to remind you of this post and relay that we are currently working on an E-Bike ordinance with our city attorney and staff to put in front of city council.

Electric bicycles and electric motorcycles are becoming more popular.
Here are a few things to remember. To be considered an electric bicycle, it must have working pedals. If your electric bicycle does not have pedals, it is considered an electric motorcycle.

Electric motorcycles must be registered, have lights, have insurance, and be operated by a licensed driver, the same as any motorcycle or ATV on the roadway.

Electric Bicycle Regulations (W.S.31-5-707 & 31-1-101)

Definition: Electric bicycles must have fully operable pedals, a seat, and an electric motor of less than 750 watts (approximately 1 horsepower).
Classes:
Class 1: Pedal-assist only, the motor stops once the bike reaches 20 mph.
Class 2: Throttle-assisted, the motor ceases assistance once the bike reaches 20 mph.
Class 3: Pedal-assist only; the motor ceases assistance once the bike reaches 28 mph.
Rider Rules: E-Bikes are allowed on bike paths but not generally on sidewalks. No form of wheeled vehicles is allowed on sidewalks in the downtown business district. Helmets are required for riders under 18.
As pedestrian activity and seasonal conditions both continue to increase, LPD will be implementing stricter enforcement measures of the above stated WY State Statutes for the safety of the community.

Larimer County, we’re heartbroken to share information about a sudden and tragic loss within our agency.

On June 16, an LCSO Deputy, Sergeant, and Sergeant’s family member were vacationing together on a motorcycle trip. The men were traveling on a North Idaho scenic highway when a pickup truck attempted to pass another vehicle in a marked no-passing zone. The truck crossed the double yellow centerline and collided with the motorcycles, killing all three riders.

The truck driver was arrested and booked into the Idaho County Jail on three counts of vehicular manslaughter. Idaho State Police are investigating this crash.

Out of respect for their families’ strong desire for privacy, we aren’t identifying the deputies at this time.

There are no good words in a situation like this. Put simply, these were incredible people who dedicated their lives to making Larimer County better every single day. They trained hard, they served well, and they loved life. As we walk the long and winding path of grief alongside their families, our resolve is stronger than ever:

For them, we’ll bring light into dark places.
For them, we’ll stand for good and fight against evil.
For them, we’ll live each day with gratitude and carry their legacy forward.

Rest easy, brothers. We’ve got it from here. 💙

The Lander Police Department is requesting the community's assistance to help identify this subject involved in a burglary at a business in the 200 Blk McFarlane Dr in the late hours of Tuesday, 16 June 2026.

The Lander Police Department is proud to recognize two well-deserved promotions approved by the Lander City Council this evening.

Please join us in congratulating Corporal David Milovich on his promotion to Sergeant and Officer Casey Tadewald on his promotion to Corporal.

Both Sergeant Milovich and Corporal Tadewald have consistently demonstrated professionalism, leadership, dedication, and a strong commitment to serving the citizens of Lander. Their hard work, initiative, and devotion to the department have earned the respect of their peers and supervisors alike.

These promotions reflect not only their accomplishments to date but also the confidence we have in their ability to continue leading and serving our community at the highest level.

Your kindness in providing a meal for our team of officers is greatly appreciated and helps keep our team energized while they work to keep our community safe. Partnerships like these demonstrate the strong community spirit that makes Lander such a special place.

Congratulations to Sgt. Milovich, Officer Borchardt, Officer Hanson, and Corporal Tadewald on successfully completing the week-long Gracie Survival Tactics (GST) course and earning their Level 1 Instructor Certifications!

Throughout the intensive training, these officers developed advanced defensive tactics skills focused on officer safety, control techniques, de-escalation, and effective responses to real-world encounters. Their dedication and commitment to professional development will help enhance training opportunities within our department and better prepare our officers to serve and protect our community.

We are proud of their accomplishment and appreciate their willingness to invest the time and effort necessary to bring this valuable training back to the Lander Police Department. Please join us in congratulating them on this outstanding achievement!

Today, Chief Kelly Waugh, Captain Levi Martson, and SRO Jake Conilogue had the privilege of attending Camp Postcard and spending time with an incredible group of young people.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the camp organizers and facilitators for the invitation and for creating such a positive, engaging, and welcoming environment. The enthusiasm, kindness, and energy displayed by the campers made for a truly enjoyable experience.

Chief Waugh, Captain Martson, and SRO Conilogue appreciated the opportunity to interact with the wonderful kids at camp, share conversations, answer questions, and be a part of such a meaningful program.

Thank you, Camp Postcard, for allowing us to be part of your day. We look forward to future opportunities to connect with the youth in the Wyoming community!
