The Wind River Cultural Centers Foundation (WRCCF) is thankful for the generous support of donors who have supported our efforts to foster community engagement through history at the Pioneer Museum. Past donations have supported the “I Light History” campaign that is allowing the Pioneer Museum to install permanent, high-quality exterior lighting on their buildings.

This year the WRCCF is thrilled to allocate donations toward developing new exhibits, improving facilities and increasing awareness and involvement within Lander. Your support is vital in helping us achieve our goals and positively impacting the Pioneer Museum and the greater community.

We urge you to make your contributions through Challenge for Charities (C4C) before the July 10, 2026 deadline. By doing so, you not only support the Wind River Cultural Centers Foundation initiatives for the Pioneer Museum but also take advantage of the matching donation opportunity provided by our dedicated group of Challengers.

A lookback from 140 years ago in Lander, 1886:

Two store fronts in one building, the Lander Meat Market and John Painter's barber shop. One gentleman is identified in the foreground as John Murphy, a territorial sheriff appointed by the Governor of Dakota Territory in 1868, of which South Pass had been at that time.

Charles Harrison, a stone mason and carpenter (noted to be in the photo but not which gentleman), had the contract in 1887 to build a brick building two doors east of the Lander Hotel that would house Mr. Painter and Mr. Sostmann's barber shop and bath house. The Lander Hotel once sat where the Grand Theater is today.
