The Landrum Police Department would like to report that the incident on E. Rutherford Street has been safely resolved. There is no ongoing threat to the community and normal operations have resumed in the area.

Today we had the pleasure of attending the graduation ceremony for Basic Law Enforcement Class 862 at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. This ceremony honored two of the newest members to our law enforcement family, Officer A. Decker and Officer M. Williams. We are very proud of their hard work and dedication, and blessed to be able to call them partner within our community! We are confident in the service and protection they will bring to the City of Landrum.

As part of our commitment to keeping our community safe, the Landrum Police Department utilizes Flock Safety technology to help solve and prevent crime in a more effective manner. These advanced plate-recognition cameras serve as an extra set of eyes at key entry points into our city, instantly alerting officers when a stolen vehicle or a vehicle associated with a missing person or wanted suspect enters into our city limits. This technology does not use facial recognition or track traffic violations; instead, it provides our officers with real-time leads needed to protect our streets, recover stolen property, and keep the citizens of Landrum safe and to ensure that Landrum remains a protected place to live, work and visit!

It was an honor for Sgt. Shehan and Officer Watry to spend time sharing with the little minds of Happy Hearts Nursery today during their career day event. Opening up and partnering with local businesses to share our love and dedication to our community is something we greatly enjoy, especially when we get to interact with the littles! 😊

Following great precautionary measures taken by our officers and city maintance staff, Brookwood Park has been reopended. The park property and surrounding areas have been cleared. You may enter the park area, however, please, always be mindful of your surroundings.

Our department provided mutual aid assistance to the Polk County, N.C. Sheriff's Office during a pursuit that entered into our jurisdiction. Please avoid the area mention in the release attached below, as emergency response teams are still on scene.

A friendly reminder from our department to our residents...we are aware that feral animals can be a nuisance, they can also be a health hazard to other animals. Taking extra percaution as a pet owner could help to eliminate "strays" staying too long in one area. When feral animals become comfortable they tend to overstay their welcome. 😅

As a pet owner it's your responsibility to ensure your pet is secure at all times.

According to S.C. Code § 56-5-2735;

In South Carolina, it is illegal to enter an intersection or marked crosswalk unless there is sufficient space on the other side to accommodate your vehicle without obstructing other vehicles or pedestrians. Drivers must not block the flow of traffic, even if they have a green light.

We are noticing more and more of this downtown, please be mindful, as this is a violation of South Carolina state law and does carry fines and penalities.
