Every Memorial Day, flags get raised, cemeteries fill with flowers, and “thank you for your service” gets said a thousand different ways.

But for some families… today is still a hard day.

Because Memorial Day is really about the people who never got the chance to come home, grow old, raise their kids, or sit around the table again.

As firefighters, we understand the idea of serving something bigger than yourself.
And today, we pause to honor the men and women who gave everything for this country and their communities.

Not for recognition.
Not for attention.
But because they believed others were worth sacrificing for.

That kind of courage should never become ordinary.

From the Lanesboro Fire Department, we remember the fallen and honor the families who continue carrying their legacy forward every day.

🇺🇸 Never forgotten.

During EMS Week, the Lanesboro Fire Department would like to recognize and thank the dedicated men and women of the Lanesboro and Preston Ambulance services.

For many people, EMS is not just a career — it’s a commitment to serve their communities. Many of these providers are volunteers who leave their families, jobs, meals, and sleep behind at all hours of the day and night to answer calls for help. That level of sacrifice deserves appreciation and respect.

Whether responding to medical emergencies, serious accidents, lift assists, or difficult calls, our ambulance crews are there when people need them most. We are grateful for the teamwork, professionalism, and care they bring to every scene.

At the end of the day, we all share the same mission: protecting and serving our communities.

Thank you to the volunteers and staff of Lanesboro Ambulance and Preston Ambulance for the countless hours you dedicate to helping others. Your service does not go unnoticed.

Please join us in thanking all EMS providers during EMS Week.

Today is International Firefighters’ Day.

Since 1884, the Lanesboro Fire Department has answered the call.

Not for recognition.
Not for attention.
But because this community matters.

Training nights. Late calls. Long hours.
Real people, stepping up when it counts.

Over 140 years later… that commitment hasn’t changed.

We’re proud of the work being done.
We’re grateful for those who built this before us.
And we’re ready for whatever comes next.

To all firefighters—past and present—thank you.

🚒 Training Night at Lanesboro Fire Department 🚒

Last night, our crew spent several hours sharpening critical skills during live LP (propane) training—a vital part of preparing for real-world emergencies. These hands-on scenarios help us safely manage highly volatile situations that can put lives, property, and our community at risk.

We’d like to give a huge thank you to Riverland Fire Training for their expertise and Kruegel Gas Service for supplying the LP and helping make this training possible. Partnerships like these are what keep small departments like ours strong and ready.

🔥 Why this matters:

Propane incidents require specialized training and fast decision-making
Fires can double in size every 30–60 seconds
In rural communities like ours, we are the first—and often only—line of defense

Our firefighters are 100% volunteer, putting in countless hours of training each month—on top of full-time jobs and family commitments—so that when the pager goes off, we’re ready.

💪 We are committed to protecting Lanesboro.
Every training night like this is an investment in your safety.

📸 Check out some of the highlights from last night’s training below!

⚠️ As we continue to serve our community, support for emergency services is more important than ever. Fire departments don’t just respond to fires—we handle medical calls, vehicle accidents, hazardous materials, and more.

If you believe in keeping Lanesboro safe, we encourage you to stay informed, support your local fire department and Relief Association, and help us continue building a stronger, safer community.

🎄🚒 Christmas at the Lanesboro Fire Department 🚒🎄

Santa brings the gifts…
We bring the lights, sirens, and “please don’t burn the house down” reminders. 😄

As you celebrate Christmas with family, food, and a few questionable decoration decisions, know that your Lanesboro Fire Department is on duty and ready. We’re honored to serve a community that looks out for one another and supports its volunteers—especially during the moments that matter most.

We’re incredibly grateful for the trust you place in us, the families who stand behind our members, and the community that makes serving here such a privilege—even if we joke around a little.

From our firehouse to your home—Merry Christmas, stay safe, and remember: firefighters really don’t want to meet you tonight! 😉🚒🎄

🎄 Lanesboro Fire Department – Holidays with the Heroes 🎄

The Lanesboro Fire Department had the joy and honor of participating in this year’s Holidays with the Heroes event alongside our fellow first responders from across Fillmore, Houston, and Winona counties.

Being part of a day dedicated to bringing smiles, hope, and Christmas cheer to local children is a powerful reminder of why service matters. Seeing the excitement on the faces of these kids as Santa arrived—escorted by lights, sirens, fire trucks, ambulances, and squad cars—is something our members won’t soon forget.

We’re grateful to Bluff Country Hidden Heroes for organizing such an impactful event and for the countless volunteers and donors who made it possible. This was about more than delivering gifts—it was about showing kids and families that their community stands behind them.

Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of something so meaningful. This is service beyond the call—and it’s an honor we’re proud to carry.

🚒❤️

Three Santa Clauses escorted by three teams of area fire trucks, police squad cars and ambulances went around Fillmore, Houston and Winona counties spreading Christmas cheer.
