A new CNN article highlights a heartbreaking reality: child drowning deaths have risen, and many of these tragedies are preventable.

That's why the South Whidbey Parks & Aquatics Foundation is committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn this lifesaving skill.

Through our Every Third Grader Learns to Swim initiative, every South Whidbey third grader will receive swim lessons to learn to swim or strengthen their existing skills. But our commitment doesn't stop there. Through our Access for All program, we'll also provide financial assistance so low-income families can enjoy the aquatic center and enroll their children in swim lessons—including toddlers and preschoolers, when learning water safety can make a lifelong difference.

The new aquatic center isn't just about recreation—it's about preventing drowning, improving health, and building a stronger, more connected community.

Water supports health at every age. Swimming is one of the few activities people can enjoy for a lifetime. From children building confidence...to adults improving strength and mobility...to seniors staying active and connected. The new South Whidbey Aquatics and Recreation Center is being built for everyone: because access to recreation should support every stage of life.
