Rev. Magnus Scott, a trustee of the town of Langston, was one of the guest speakers at the Melvin Tolson Black Heritage Program. He spoke of Dr. Tolson's legacy as an educator at Langston University and his term as mayor for the town of Langston. Rev. Scott was born in Nigeria, West Africa, and coincidentally, Dr. Tolson was once poet laureate of the same country.

This is Dr. Layne Farmen, a Langston University Assistant Professor of English. He was speaking about the impact Dr. Melvin Tolson had on education, and Tolson's time as a well known poet. This Black Heritage Program was a tribute to Dr. Melvin Tolson. It was sponsored and arranged by the LU Department of English and Foreign Languages. The event was held in the Melvin Tolson Black Heritage Center.
