Congratulations to our June Business of the Month The Minty Mitten in St. John’s!! The Minty Mitten sells only Michigan-made items, from candles, hand-made jewelry, local artwork, and so much more! The family has strived to provide a space for local creatives to sell their goods, which offers a personal touch to every piece. I was so glad I was able to visit The Minty Mitten yesterday to learn more about this amazing small business, meet their official store mascot, Charlotte the Bulldog, and award them with our June Business of the Month award!

“Poverty elimination is a growth strategy” — the quote from Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield on stickers beneath the seats of each attendee for her keynote speech at the Mackinac Policy Conference on Thursday.

As I am sure many of you have already heard, earlier this week, the Interlochen Center for the Arts announced plans to demolish the Green Lake Lodge, which was paid for by and formerly named after Jeffrey Epstein. While I agree with the decision to tear down the lodge, I believe that it is fair to question why a lodge paid for by and formerly named after our nation’s most prolific pe*****le, was left standing for as long as it was. Whether or not this decision was related to the increasingly loud and widespread calls for an investigation into Interlochen is unclear, however, the timing of the decision appears to show that Interlochen is finally listening to the many Michiganders who have questions and concerns about Epstein’s past involvement with the Center.

Interlochen Center for the Arts is moving forward with a plan to demolish the Green Lake Lodge, which was funded by Jeffrey Epstein.

This Memorial Day, we honor the brave women and men who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We are indebted to their selflessness and unwavering dedication to defending our freedom.

Today, I was abruptly, and unexpectedly removed from all of my committee assignments, a move that has historically only been used as a way to punish Members for extremely inappropriate actions. The last time that this measure was taken by a Speaker, was in 2024, when Rep. Schriver was removed from his committee assignments for the "proliferation of racist, hateful and bigoted speech" after he posted a graphic promoting "The Great Replacement Theory".

Yesterday, I attended a typical House Oversight Committee hearing in the morning. Today, I was informed that I was being singled out as the only member in the entire chamber that would be removed from a committee. I was removed from all three of my committees, and no other changes were made.

The only thing that happened between my committee meeting on Tuesday, and being informed of my removal from all committees today, was a press conference where I called upon Speaker Hall and republican leadership in the House to investigate Jeffrey Epstein.

Speaker Hall is trying to make an example out of me by publicly silencing and intimidating me. His decision to punish those that speak out for survivors of child sexual abuse, rather than to investigate the perpetrators behind the abuse is a significant miscalculation, and part of the reason that he will be remembered as a one-term Speaker of the House.

Today, I held a press conference with State Representative Betsy Coffia and State Representative Reggie Miller to continue advocating for the passage of House Resolution 284, which would create a bipartisan committee focused on investigating the claims of abuse by Jeffrey Epstein at the Interlochen Center for the Arts.

When faced with the opportunity for real transparency and accountability, House Leadership has determined that these allegations of abuse do not warrant the Legislature’s attention. I could not disagree more. We must use our full authority to investigate the allegations of abuse by Epstein at Interlochen, and ensure an institution that has received state funds is protecting the thousands of young children that attend each year.

I had a wonderful opportunity to tour Lansing’s Charter House Clubhouse today!! The Charter House is a part of the Community Mental Health Authority, offering valuable resources for those with a history of mental illness in the Capitol-area. The Charter House has been dedicated to providing members with meals and other essentials, assisting them in finding employment opportunities, learning new skills, and offering a safe and welcoming environment since 1978. I was so glad to be able to take a tour and meet so many members who have found community thanks to the Charter House.
