Good morning everyone, hope all is well and Happy Friday Eve ๐ŸŒž

Yesterday, I was invited to speak at the We The People Housing Justice Rally at the Capitol. I spoke about how housing is a human right and we must do everything possible to make it more affordable, as well as the work we've already done funding Detroit's Right To Counsel program in hopes of expanding it statewide ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

Also, we finally got a bill number for our MOST PRO-PEOPLE & PRO-UNION Community Solar legislation in the nation (HB 6041) aka Affordable Community Clean Energy Savings and Solar Act (ACCESS) ๐Ÿ’™

Our bill will GUARANTEE at least 20% savings for low-income households and 10% savings for all others, as well as create real labor standards and ensure community ownership over our clean energy future.

In the wake of DTE and Consumers Energy strong-arming our politicians, a few are standing up to the utilities and nullifying their money. 148 Michigan lawmakers and candidates have signed a pledge to not knowingly accept more than $200 in PAC money from the big utilities. The pledge is bi-partisan and has support from all over the political spectrum. Progressives such as Rep. Donavan McKinney and Sen. Stephanie Chang appear along side right wing names like Rep. Jim DeSana.

This bodes well for future legislation like Michigan Money Out Of Politics, which aims to stop political contributions from companies that have large contracts with State government. This would effectively halt the torrent of dark money pouring into our politics.

Good morning everyone, hope all is well & Happy Hump Day ๐ŸŒž

Yesterday, we were highlighted by Planet Detroit discussing our support for the Michiganders for Money out of Politics - MMOP ballot initiative and our first in the country "Ratepayer Bill of Rights" legislation to hold DTE & Consumers Energy accountable to the people and communities we serve.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave souls who gave their lives defending our freedom. Their sacrifice serves as a reminder of the true cost of liberty. Their courage and selflessness will forever be etched in our hearts. Let's express our deepest gratitude to those who died fighting for our country. We are indebted to their selflessness and unwavering dedication to defending our freedom ๐Ÿ’™

Yesterday, I was interviewed by WXYZ-TV Channel 7 News about the recent deaths of 2 women at Huron Valley (the stateโ€™s only women's prison facility) ๐Ÿ’”

I have had countless calls from constituents and concerned citizens (inside and outside the facility) about the conditions at Women's Huron Valley. I've toured and visited the facility, spoke to the women in there including Krystal Clark and others. I've sat down and had numerous meetings with MDOC Director Heidi Washington and her administration.

It's been years of neglect and I can't tell you how we are all fed up with the inaction of MDOC.

So we as legislators are standing with the community and calling for Director Washington to resign, as well as to close Huron Valley and move those women somewhere else for their safety & the safety of all people who have to work and visit there ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

Good morning everyone & Happy Friday ๐ŸŒž

Yesterday, I was interviewed by CBS Detroit at the Capitol discussing the House Republicans plan to cut property taxes without raising any revenue to replace those dollars.

I said I support a property tax cut, however their plan is completely irresponsible because the state of Michigan is already in a $2 Billion deficit due to the "One Big Ugly Bill" that DC Republicans passed last year making major cuts to our healthcare, food assistance, and other programs.

As currently written, this Republican plan will not only add to the deficit, but bankrupt our schools, local governments, as well as funding for infrastructure, roads and so much more.

Also, I spoke out on the front steps of the Captiol Building rallying and calling on the state to finally FULLY FUND HOME CARE ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

P.S. Shout out to SEIU & our Home Care workers as they negotiate for a fair contract with living wages and benefits for those workers who take care of our most vulnerable loved ones ๐Ÿ’™

Good morning everyone, hope all is well & Happy Friday Eve ๐ŸŒž

Yesterday, I was invited to speak at a press conference discussing my support for the Money Out of Politics ballot initiative that is based off our Taking Back Our Power legislation we introduced last term and reintroduced earlier this term.

I was quoted in Bridge Michigan saying:

McKinney, meanwhile, was bullish, saying that if the effort made the ballot โ€œitโ€™s going to pass. Mark my words.โ€

โ€œYou want to know why? Because both sides of the aisle, and everybody in the middle, agree that enough is enough,โ€ McKinney said. โ€œPeople are fed up.โ€
