To say this historic violence and murder is shameful and inhumane is an understatement.

in 1921, the two-day Tulsa Race Massacre began.

A white mob attacked the predominantly Black Greenwood neighborhood of Tulsa, Oklahoma, destroying homes, businesses and entire city blocks of what was known as “Black Wall Street.”

As many as 300 people were killed, thousands were left homeless, and generations of Black wealth and opportunity were erased.

The Tulsa Race Massacre remains one of the deadliest acts of racial violence in U.S. history and a reminder of the lasting impact of white supremacist violence.

I'm a former member of the IBEW Local 58 - Detroit (thanks Detroit PBS!), and a vested member of the AFT-AFLCIO (thanks New York University!). I know from personal experience that unions protect workers on the job and in retirement. This is why I'm supporting the hardworking hourly workers of UAW Local 2093. Their contract with the automotive supplier American Axle (in Three Rivers) expires on Sunday, May 30. They've negotiated in good faith. After almost 20 years of serious pay cuts and concessions to keep the business afloat, workers are seeking to recoup their losses and look toward a future that isn't a struggle for basic needs. Over the last decade, American Axle Mfg (aka Dauch) has enjoyed over $8 billion in profit and its CEO salary is well over a $100 million. It shouldn't be difficult for them to ensure that the people who keep them in business earn a true living wage, are entitled to affordable healthcare, and can look forward to a reasonable retirement. I'm hoping American Axle understands that workforce pride reflects on a business and negotiates a fair contract. Let's hope for good news on Sunday. I'm thankful to be a member of the House Labor Caucus and keep informed about worker issues and advocate for workers throughout Michigan.

The next time you wonder why your taxes are so high, ask your Michigan Republican Representatives and Senators why they support a President who has given $40 billion in tax breaks to big business and makes us pick up the tab.

U.S. companies skirted at least $40 billion in taxes since the beginning of 2025 thanks to schemes in places like Malta, Bermuda and Cyprus.

Waste! Fraud! Abuse! Session gaveled in at 1:30 pm — and we haven’t voted yet! And there are bills on our agenda! Our Republican Speaker of the House has put nada up for a vote! At 5:30 we were told we could leave, but be back at 6:30. This is a selfie with Traverse City State Rep in front of the Capitol. Now 7:11 pm and we’re still waiting. Waste of time, money, and some Reps are looking for hotel rooms to spend the night!

Racist Republican legislators strip Black voters of voting rights with ridiculous redistricted maps. Republicans know they can’t win on good policy and being decent people. They know the only way they can win is by rigging elections. They’ll try to do it here.
