It has been a busy week in Lansing, and I'm glad to be back home in our district tonight. I appreciate the support for my reelection from the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, and I look forward to the opportunities that 2027 will bring to pass meaningful legislation that truly supports Michigan's hardworking business owners and families.

We're all dealing with the pain of rising utility bills.

Yet when major rate increases are proposed, the people’s elected representatives often have no formal role in reviewing their impact.

Senate Bill 587 (Hoitenga) restores legislative oversight by requiring public review of proposed utility rate hikes before final action is taken.

If we’re accountable to the people paying the bills, we should have a seat at the table when those bills go up.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new 250-acre data center yesterday, Governor Whitmer emphasized the importance of constructing these facilities to remain competitive with other countries.

Statistics.com shows there does not appear to be any sort of risk of other countries beating the U.S. with data centers. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Today, we remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country. Each story of sacrifice strengthens our commitment to ensure that their legacy lives on, not just in our memories but in our actions.

I was in Lansing for committee hearings last week, however, we did not vote on anything in the Senate. This week, we had several votes, including a time-sensitive bill for our district's schools. The ‘forgiven days’ bill is now headed to the governor’s desk for signing. I voted in favor of it.

So many folks showed up to the Wexford Joint Planning Commission meeting tonight to hear information about Ranger Powers proposed solar development on Ag land in my hometown, that the meeting was moved outside due to building capacity limits. There was not a quorum to hold an official meeting.

I will continue to fight at the state level to restore your voices over these projects, as the Whitmer administration has taken away local control. The House passed legislation last week to start the repeal of Public Act 233 so hang in there … and vote RIGHT!!!

THIS IS NOT MY BILL, but it is up for a hearing in my Ag and Natural Resources Committee tomorrow. What do you say—should the eastern wild turkey be designated Michigan’s official game bird?

This week marks National Police Week, a time to honor the courageous officers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who tirelessly serve and protect our communities.

During my travels this week, I had the esteemed opportunity to shake hands with two extraordinary individuals. The first was Conservation Officer Luke Robare, who was awarded both a Medal of Valor and a Lifesaving Award at Wednesday’s NRC meeting in Ga***rd. His quick actions in stopping an active shooter at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints exemplify true heroism.

Today in Rogers City, I presented Officer Bruce Collins of the Rogers City Police Department with a tribute for his heroic response to a vehicle with two passengers that had plunged into Lake Huron. Without hesitation, Officer Collins entered the cold waters to rescue the individuals trapped inside.

Both of these men, along with MANY other dedicated officers, face the unknown every single day, often putting their own safety on the line. We are profoundly grateful for their service.

7:00 P.M UPDATE: The NRC should adopt mandatory roll call votes. It was unclear who voted Yea and Nay. Additionally, it was unclear what the votes included. It appeared there was even confusion amongst the board on what was included in the OBR vote. There were some positive things, I think 🤷‍♀️. I’m going to hold judgement until I see a statement from the DNR.

6:00 UPDATE: Still at the NRC meeting and Commissioner Eyster just said he doesn’t trust southern Michigan hunters… “they are sloppy hunters.”

Here are the votes:

Upper Peninsula crossbow use for senior deer license holders: Yea 6, Nay 1 PASSED

Maintain hunters choice in UP (2 bucks), one buck lower peninsula, earn a second buck pilot program in lower peninsula: Yea 5, Nay 2 PASSED

Eliminate limited firearm deer zone: Yea 4, Nay 3 PASSED

Antlerless use limits by DMU: Yea 7 Nay 0 PASSED

No hunting after January 1: Yea 7 Nay 0 PASSED
