Raúl Hernández-Guzmán, chair of the LGBTQ+ Commission of Michigan, joined Gov. Whitmer for a celebration and signing of the Pride Month proclamation at Good Judy’s Market & Juice Bar, an LGBTQ+ owned business in Grand Rapids.

“As we celebrate Pride Month 2026, I want to celebrate and uplift every member of our LGBTQ+ community,” said Raúl Hernández-Guzmán, chair of the LGBTQ+ Commission of Michigan. “Over the past year, the LGBTQ+ Commission of Michigan has traveled across our state listening to the voices, experiences, and concerns of our communities. This Pride Month, we celebrate not only our resilience, but our collective strength. We celebrate the people who continue to show up, support one another, and build community in every corner of Michigan. Your voices matter. Your stories matter. And together, we will continue working toward a Michigan where every LGBTQ+ person feels safe, valued, affirmed, and celebrated.”

At the Mackinac Policy Conference, LEO Director Susan Corbin joined Michigan Women’s Commission Executive Director Cheryl Bergman and Commissioners Kelli Saunders and Dr. Tracy Joshua to discuss how menopause impacts workforce participation, employee retention and quality of life for Michigan women.

The conversation highlighted findings from the Menopause Memorandum and the commission’s statewide survey, which found that many women face workplace challenges related to menopause and are seeking greater awareness, flexibility and support. Panelists shared recommendations for employers and policymakers aimed at creating menopause-informed workplaces that help women thrive through every stage of their careers.

Supporting women in midlife is not only the right thing to do—it strengthens Michigan’s workforce, economy, families and communities.

State and local business leaders unveiled a new AI Data Trends in Michigan report this week to continue efforts that prepare workers, employers and communities for rapid changes and opportunities driven by artificial intelligence and automation while ensuring economic growth benefits all regions and industries across the state.

“Michigan has the nation’s most proactive, people-first approach to artificial intelligence in the workplace. Our plan invests in workers, supports businesses and modernizes workforce systems so Michiganders can succeed in an AI-driven economy,” said LEO Director Susan Corbin. “The new data shows that most jobs are expected to evolve, not disappear, which makes training our workforce and ensuring adaptability essential to future success.”
