Under the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), the Office of Employment and Training (E&T) provides services to the state’s residents and

businesses through the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons (BSBP), Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS), and Workforce Development (WD). BSBP believes in the capacity of people who are blind or visually impaired to achieve employment and independence, providing training and other services that empower people to achieve their individual goals. MRS provides specialized employment and education-related services and training to assist teens and adults with disabilities in becoming employed or retaining employment. WD supports a demand driven workforce system, assists the structurally unemployed with financial independence, advocates for the integration of workforce development into the K-12 school system, and supports the alignment of workforce development with economic development efforts. $150,000 available to help strengthen K-12 educator and local manufacturing partnerships through the Skills in Sync Regional Partnership Pilot Program. Funding will help regional stakeholders — including K-12 educators, employers, post-secondary education providers and workforce or community organizations — join, build or expand partnerships that will implement employer-informed manufacturing programs within the schools.

Grants will be awarded in regions where schools have implemented manufacturing programs but have not yet built deep partnerships for ongoing collaboration with the local manufacturing ecosystem.

Matthew began working with Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) during high school to build his workplace skills. But the first job he secured was not a good fit for him.

Recognizing that he needed additional support, Matthew went back to MRS. With renewed determination and guidance from MRS, Matthew worked to find a job that was better suited to his needs. As a result, he found a job that he enjoys.
