As summer travel begins, I want to remind Macomb County residents to be cautious when booking vacations, rentals, or travel deals online.

Scammers know people are looking for summer getaways, and they often create fake listings, fake websites, or deals that seem too good to be true. Before sending money, verify the company, read reviews, use secure payment methods, and never feel pressured to act immediately.

A good deal is never worth risking your personal or financial information.

Stay alert, ask questions, and protect yourself and your family from summer scams.

June is National Safety Month, and I see it as a good reminder that public safety starts with everyday choices. Buckling up, driving sober, securing valuables, checking on older neighbors, and speaking up when something does not seem right all help protect Macomb County families. Prevention is not complicated, but it does require attention.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office is hosting FREE SCAMS (Stopping Crimes Against Macomb Seniors) presentations that provide valuable information on recognizing scams early and protecting yourself and your loved ones.

Attendees will learn about common fraud tactics, warning signs, and practical steps to stay safe and avoid becoming a victim.

I want residents to remember that scammers often pressure people to act fast, keep secrets, or pay in unusual ways. If someone demands gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or immediate payment over the phone, pause and verify before sending money. Please talk with older loved ones about these warning signs before a scammer reaches them.
