Lansing Fire Department Inc. Lansing Fire Department is a 100% volunteer department serving approximately 75 square miles in the northeast of Tompkins County located in central New York.

Operating from four stations, the Lansing Fire Department responds to all alarms of fire, vehicle accidents, medical emergencies (EMS), hazardous material incidents (HazMat), and hazardous conditions in our response area. In a typical year, we will respond nearly 900-1000 times to calls for help, with a near-even split between EMS and all other calls. Our coverage area is one of the largest in the

county, in addition to being one of the most varied. Any day could bring a call to a farm, hotel, shopping mall, regional airport, manufacturing facility, mine, or power plant - in addition to the more common calls to private residences.

A Busy Evening for Lansing Fire Department 🚒🔥

Yesterday was a busy one for the members of the Lansing Fire Department, with crews responding to 5 calls between 4:40 PM and 8:36 PM.

🚒 16:40 – Vehicle Fire
🚑 18:05 – Personal Injury MVA
🔥 18:30 – Structure Fire
🚑 18:53 – Medical Call
🚑 20:36 – Medical Call

Our members stayed ready and responded throughout the evening, handling a variety of incidents and working together to serve our community.

A big thank-you to all of our firefighters, dispatchers, EMS partners, and mutual-aid departments who helped make these responses possible.

🚒 DRIVER/OPERATOR TRAINING BLITZ 💦

Our crews recently spent time sharpening their driver and pump operator skills during a hands-on training blitz focused on water supply and apparatus operations.

Members worked through drafting operations from the lake, portable tank setup, water supply operations, and supplying an aerial apparatus for master stream operations. Operators also had the opportunity to work through pump operations, positioning, communication, and maintaining a steady water supply throughout the evolution.

This type of training is critical. It allows our drivers and operators to build confidence, improve communication, and become more comfortable with the equipment and challenges they may face on an actual incident.

A big part of being ready for the call is putting in the work before the call comes.

🚒 Training on the Water with Trumansburg FD! 🌊🔥

Last evening, our crews had the opportunity to train alongside the Trumansburg Fire Department for a hands-on evening of water supply and pumping operations at the lake.

Crews worked together operating the marine unit, establishing a water supply, stretching hose lines, and flowing multiple handlines and master streams. The training provided a great opportunity to work on communication, coordination, pump operations, and moving large volumes of water from the lake.

Joint training like this is invaluable. Working alongside neighboring departments allows us to become familiar with each other’s equipment, operations, and capabilities while building the teamwork needed when we respond together on an actual incident.

A big thank-you to Trumansburg FD and everyone who came out and put in the work!

🔥 Vehicle Fire – Lansing, NY

At 12:43 PM on Friday, Lansing Fire was dispatched to a vehicle fire located next to a home. 15 Lansing firefighters responded, along with an engine from Cayuga Heights Fire. Bangs Ambulance and Tompkins County EMS assisted on scene.

Crews quickly knocked down the fire and prevented it from spreading into the house. The vehicle sustained heavy damage, and the exterior siding of the home was affected by heat, but no injuries were reported.

Thank you to all responding agencies for the fast, coordinated work that kept this incident from becoming much worse.

🚒 Operator Training: Hydrant Assist & Water Supply Operations 🚒

This week's operator training focused on hydrant assist operations and the critical role the engineer/operator plays in establishing and maintaining a reliable water supply.
Operators worked through hydrant hookups, supply line deployment, pump engagement, pressure management, and communication between the hydrant and the engine. The training emphasized making smooth, efficient transitions from tank water to a sustained hydrant supply while ensuring firefighters on the attack lines receive consistent water flow.
Successful fireground operations start with a dependable water supply, and that begins with a well-trained operator. Regular hands-on training helps build confidence, reinforces good habits, and prepares our drivers/operators to perform under pressure when seconds count.
Great work by everyone who participated and shared their knowledge. Continuous training ensures we're always ready to serve our community safely and effectively.
