On Monday, August 31, teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Cook County Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security (EMRS), the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA), and U.S. Small Business Administration, will be in Lansing assessing damage from the August 11 storm.

These door-to-door assessments help state and federal officials understand the extent of the damage and determine whether Cook County may qualify for federal disaster assistance.

Teams will:
•Carry official identification.
•Never ask for money or payment.
•Conduct exterior assessments only. They will not enter your home.

If you see an assessment team in your neighborhood, please feel free to speak with them about the damage your property experienced.

Please note: Not every home or business that reported damage will receive a visit. If you do not receive a visit, it will not affect your ability to seek assistance if additional programs become available.

In 1937, Henry Ford was abandoning the Hammond (now Lansing) Airport and was planning on destroying the Hangar.
Cue heroic music!
Guy Amick offered Ford $250 a month to lease 100 acres and keep the airport open and preserve the Hangar.
Thankfully, Ford accepted and a masterpiece of architectural innovation was saved!
