Lansing Correctional Facility Lansing Correctional Facility (LCF) is the state’s largest and oldest correctional complex for adult male inmates.

At the close of 2013, LCF had a capacity of 2,405. The complex consists of the Central Unit, which includes an 11-acre maximum-security facility, and a 46-acre medium-security facility, and the East Unit which is an 85-acre minimum-security facility. LCF also houses one of two centers for the KDOC’s transportation system that provides for the movement of inmates among the state's correctional faci

lities. As with other facilities under the management of the Secretary of Corrections, education, health services and food services are provided through contracts with private vendors. Originally named the Kansas State Penitentiary when the facility was authorized by the Kansas Constitution in 1859, the name was legislatively changed to the Lansing Correctional Facility (LCF) on June 18, 1990.

On March 27, 2026, the Lansing Correctional Facility SORT Team assisted Wyandotte County Jail during a facility-wide search operation, alongside support from Johnson County personnel.

Operations such as these highlight the importance of interagency collaboration, professionalism, and teamwork among law enforcement and correctional agencies. Working together strengthens communication, enhances operational readiness, and reinforces our shared commitment to safety and security within our communities and facilities.

🩸 Thank You, Team LCF! 🩸

On May 27th, 23 generous donors including one community member rolled up their sleeves to help save lives during our second LCF/American Red Cross blood drive held at the Kansas Correctional Industries conference room.

While we fell just short of our donation goal, we still collected 22 units of blood, which has the potential to help up to 66 people in need. We were also excited to welcome six first-time donors who made the decision to give back in a meaningful way.

Thank you to everyone who donated and helped support this important cause. Every donation makes a difference, and your generosity will have a lasting impact on patients and families in need.

📅 Our next blood drive will be held on August 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Max Visiting.

We hope you’ll join us as we continue supporting this lifesaving mission. Together, we’re making a difference, one donation at a time.
