National Correctional Officers Week is observed each year during the first full week of May. Established in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan, the week is dedicated to honoring the men and women who work in correctional facilities across the United States—often in challenging, high-risk environments that go largely unseen by the public.

Correctional officers play a critical role in the criminal justice system. While their work is commonly associated with maintaining security inside jails and prisons, their responsibilities go far beyond that. They are tasked with supervising incarcerated individuals, preventing disturbances, enforcing rules, and ensuring the safety of both inmates and staff. In many cases, they also serve as mentors, de-escalators, and frontline support in rehabilitation efforts.
We want to take this time to thank our men and women behind the wall for their daily selfless efforts and dedication to the community that often goes unseen.
