Unfortunately someone is using our department AGAIN to try to scam our citizens. Reference the two attached pictures, we decided to correct all of the inconsistencies on the false warrant and incident report. The actors contacted a family member of this person and tried to get them to pay $1800.

Just know we never call/text anyone if they have a warrant for their arrest, nor would we ever send any incident reports via text.

Yesterday, during the county commissioner's meeting, Sheriff McKenna administered the oath of office to two new deputies, Deputy Treece and Deputy Gawlas. In the same ceremony, he officially promoted four individuals to the rank of sergeant: Sgt. Nelson, Sgt. Keller, Sgt. Strauel, and Sgt. Tackes. We extend our congratulations and best wishes for their continued safety and are proud to have them apart of our family.

Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office K9 Jodi to get donation of body armor

Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office, MI - K9 Jodi will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Jodi’s vest was sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and will be embroidered with the sentiment “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.”. Delivery is expected within ten weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and National Institute of Justice (NIJ) certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 6,513 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states, made possible by both private and corporate donations.

The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old, actively employed, and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $1,050 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1800.00, weighs an average of 4-5 lbs., and comes with a five-year warranty. For more information, or to learn about volunteer opportunities, please call (508) 824-6978. It has recently come to our attention that an elaborate scam is being perpetrated using our office's identity and the documents listed below to solicit funds in the form of Bitcoin. While these documents may appear authentic, they are fraudulent. Please be advised that we will never request monetary payments via phone and would never utilize a Bitcoin kiosk for any legitimate transaction. If you have concerns regarding a contact you may have had with these scammers, please do not hesitate to visit our office or contact us at 810-664-1801 with the information provided to you.
