Today an era closes and the page turns on the 100 year journey of the Lapel Stony Creek Township Fire Department. To all of the volunteers who have served our community with honor and unwavering dedication for the past 100 years, we say thank you and job well done! As Fire Chief Renner eluded, this is not an end, just a continuation with a new name.
As we move forward, the Lapel Police Department would like to welcome the men and women of the South Madison Fire Territory. We know you will continue the outstanding service and dedication to the residents of Lapel as those who came before you. Welcome aboard and we are honored to work beside you.

The Lapel Police Department recently celebrated the Holiday Season by coming together during our annual Christmas Party. During the evening Department awards were presented. Officer Nivens was awarded the “Top Shot Award” for maintaining a cumulative pistol marksman score of 98 out of 100 for the year. Officer Kemp was awarded the “Dedication to Duty Award” for volunteering over 256 hours as a Reserve Officer . Officer Petty was awarded the “Crime Buster Award” for submitting 53 criminal charges, making 18 drunk driving arrests, and a total of 35 criminal arrests for the year. Officer Diaz was awarded the 2025 “Officer of the Year”. Officer Diaz completed over 112 hours of in-service training, completed training to become the Department’s first ever Fi****ms Liaison Evidence Technician and first ever Defensive Tactics Instructor. Congratulations to all of our award recipients!

On 17 December 2025 Officer Connor Jackson graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy after completing the 16 week Tier I Basic training program. Please join us in congratulating Officer Jackson on this major milestone and wish him many years of success.

Officer Diaz recently graduated the Indiana Law Enforcement defensive tactics instructor course. Officer Diaz, upon graduating, becomes the first ever certified  defensive tactics instructor for the Lapel Police Department.  Congratulations Officer Diaz.

Thank you "Light Up Lapel", the Lapel Community Association, and all the gracious sponsors for the wonderful fireworks display. We also want to thank them for the generous donation of $1000 dollars. This donation will be used to provide training and equipment for our officers. Lastly, thank you to everyone involved with the 2025 Lapel Village Fair. Other than the downpour, it was another amazing event and we can't wait till next year!

During the 2024 Lapel Police Department Christmas party, the following Officer's were recognized:

Officer Petty was awarded the 2024 "Officer of the year". Officer Petty had 21 Operating a motor vehicle intoxicated arrests, filed a total of 105 criminal charges, and was instrumental in recovering two stolen vehicles.

Officer Diaz was awarded the 2024 "Top Shot Award" for his superior marksmanship skills. Officer Diaz had an combined average of 99 points out of 100 for all pistol qualifications during the year.

Officer Kemp was awarded the 2024 "Community Service Award". Officer Kemp volunteered 232 hours to our community this year while patrolling our Town and streets.

Officers Petty and Montgomery were recognized for their 5 years of service to our Town and their profession.
