ROAD CLOSURE - Monticello Rd in Cass County

Westbound Monticello Rd will close over State Road 25 on or after Tuesday, June 2, and the detour will follow U.S. 24/35. EB & WB Monticello Rd will be closed thru mid-July. Work includes bridge deck overlays and superstucture repairs on the Monticello Rd bridges.

LANE CLOSURES - U.S. 20 in La Porte County

Traffic will switch to the outside lanes in each direction between C.R. 250 E and C.R. 500 E on or after Friday, May 29. Work will be conducted in the inside lanes and center turn lane/median area for approximately two weeks.

Traffic will also switch to the outside lanes so that work can occur in the inside lanes and median between U.S. 35 and C.R. 400 W on or after Thursday, June 4. This work is scheduled for approximately 10 days.

Work is scheduled to begin on U.S. 20 between Fail Rd and C.R. 250 E on or after Monday, June 8. The westbound lanes will close first for the installation of three pipes, and the eastbound lanes will be converted to two-way traffic. This work is scheduled for approximately two weeks, at which point traffic will then switch to the outside lanes in each direction for work in the middle.

There will be dedicated left turns lanes at county road intersections, but no left turns through the remainder of the work zone. This extensive project has encountered numerous utility conflicts and delays but continues to progress toward its end of November completion timeline.

OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES - I-94 in La Porte County

I-94 will have overnight lane closures between U.S. 421 and U.S. 20/35 Thursday, May 28 through Monday, June 1 during the hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. The work zone is currently two lanes in each direction, and I-94 will be further reduced to one lane in each direction during these overnight hours for pavement marking work.

CSX Railroad will close U.S. 20 at their crossing between Ardendale Ave and County Line Rd for approximately 5 days starting on or after Monday, June 1. The closure will be confined to the railroad crossing, and local access will be maintained up to that point. Seek alternate routes; the official detour will follow State Road 49, I-94 and U.S. 421.

LANE CLOSURES - U.S. 24 in Cass County

Construction will begin on a reduced conflict intersection (RCI) at U.S. 24 and C.R. 600 E on or after Monday, June 1 through late November with U.S. 24 reduced to one lane in each direction. The outside lanes will close first for phase one, followed by the inside lanes during phases two and three. The median of U.S. 24 will close permanentaly when phase three begins. Motorists should stay alert for changing traffic patterns in the area, and follow all traffic directions and signage carefully.

OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES - I-65 in Jasper County

There will be overnight lane closures on northbound I-65 between mile marker 213-215 (just south of State Road 114) during the hours of 9pm-6am on Tuesday, May 26 to change the traffic configuration. After that, northbound traffic will be shifted to the left into the median with the work zone on the right through early July for bridge work at Yeoman (Martindale) Ditch.

The pictures in this post are from earlier this month when a temporary bridge was installed in the median to accomodate this traffic switch. Check out the comments for a video of the bridge structure being moved into place.

Seal coat activities will resume on State Road 25/Hoosier Heartland between C.R. 300 S in Cass County and C.R. 600 N in Carroll County (between U.S. 35 and State Road 218) tomorrow, Tuesday, May 26.

The road will be closed in the northbound/eastbound direction for 3-4 days while these operations are occurring. Motorists should be prepared to seek alternate routes. Visit 511in.org to plan accordingly.

Seal coat projects treat the pavement surface with liquid asphalt material covered by crushed stone to provide a new roadway surface and prevent future deterioration. Seal coating provides waterproofing, crack sealing and improved traction. The roadway will also be fog sealed, which is a light layer of asphalt over the stone to help lock it in and also reduce dust. ROAD CLOSURE - U.S. 24 in White and Cass Counties

U.S. 24 will close for seal coat operations between State Road 39 and U.S. 35 for approximately four days beginning on or after Monday, June 1. U.S. 24 will be closed to traffic in the area where work is occurring during the hours of 6am-6pm.

This work is weather sensitive so the schedule is subject to change. Motorists should utilize the detour or seek alternate routes while this work is ongoing. The official detour will follow State Road 39, State Road 119, State Road 16 and U.S. 35.

Roadway maintenance activities have ceased for the holiday weekend, and traffic restrictions have been lifted where safe to do. Longer-term closures for ongoing construction projects will remain in place.
