At this morning’s meeting, the Commissioners’ were honored to recognize the dedication and skills of Sullivan County’s Emergency Medical Services volunteers by issuing two proclamations. EMS Week is being celebrated this week – March 17 – 23 – and EMS for Children Day is May 20. All residents are encouraged to express their gratitude to these individuals who selflessly volunteer their time and skills to serve their communities. To further support these efforts, the Commissioners passed a resolution urging the Pennsylvania General Assembly to raise the 911 surcharge fee on wired and wireless phones by $0.25 to $2.20 per month. This extra $3.00 per year per individual adds up to $50 million in statewide funding to provide equipment and resources to support 911 services. The modest increase would ensure long-term sustainability of the Commonwealth’s 911 call taking and dispatch system and, in many counties, shift a burden away from real estate taxes. Lastly, the Commissioners once again passed a resolution enacting a 2026 Sullivan County real estate tax rebate for fire and emergency medical services volunteers. For the 2025 tax year, 98 county volunteers received this rebate with a total of $18,789.92 returned. The Commissioners expressed their sincere thanks to all volunteers for continuing their efforts to support residents of the county.
