The Friends of the Library raise funds to sponsor Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of La Porte County, the summer reading program, and so much more!

Happy National Library Outreach Day!

Today is National Library Outreach Day, and we’re highlighting the services we provide beyond the walls of our buildings! Did you know La Porte County Public Library has been providing Outreach Services since the 1940s? The Mobile Library, Mobile Classroom and Doorstep Delivery are just a few ways LPCPL connects with the community outside of the Library. In 2025, LPCPL provided 696 visits for 16,699 community members at daycares, preschools, schools, afterschool clubs, senior living facilities, neighborhoods, community events and more! As of yesterday, every child under the age of 5 in all of Indiana’s 92 counties now has access to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library!

Call to Action – Senate Bill 4: Various Fiscal Matters
𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝟒 will fundamentally destabilize and harm every Indiana public library. This bill will receive a vote on Monday, February 23, 2026. If Senate Bill 4 passes, libraries can be easily defunded by their county or city.

Since launching in February 2023, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of La Porte County has mailed 130,666 books to local children!

We’re proud to celebrate 1,368 children who have graduated from the program.

And so far this year, 26,923 books have been sent to eager young readers in La Porte County!

Did you know?

We’re proud to support the Library’s annual Summer Reading Program! This year, over 1,000 kids participated and together read more than 200,000 minutes — what an amazing accomplishment! 🎉

To make it even more fun, kids redeemed prizes through the library’s claw machines, including Squishmallows we sponsored to help keep reading exciting, prevent summer slide, and promote literacy all summer long.
