Brothers, Sisters, and our community—
The U.S. Senate has already passed the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act, which finally extends federal line-of-duty death benefits to the families of firefighters who die from occupational cancer. This is something we all know is desperately needed. Cancer is the leading cause of death in the fire service, and too many families have been left to struggle because the current system doesn’t recognize the reality of our job.
But right now, the House version of the NDAA does not include this protection. If Congress doesn’t keep Section 1098 in the final bill, families of firefighters lost to job-related cancer will continue to face financial hardship on top of unimaginable loss.
We can fix that, but only if we speak up.
Please take 30 seconds today and contact your representative using the IAFF link below. Tell them to keep the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act in the final NDAA.
Our families deserve better. Our fallen deserve to be honored. And our survivors deserve the benefits they’ve been promised.
