The Laramie Police Department is a full-service police department serving the City of Laramie. Located in southeastern Wyoming, the department has 74 employees, forty-seven of whom are sworn officers. These employees function in differing roles within the Command, Patrol, Investigations, Support Services, and the Records and Communications (LARC) Divisions. Located about two hours north of Denver,

Colorado and about 30 minutes from the Snowy Range Mountains, Laramie is just minutes from many great outdoor activities. We pride ourselves on the professionalism of our department and continue to look at innovative ways to advance policing. Happy Fuzzy Friday!

You might remember Hop Scotch from a few weeks back. This sweet cinnamon-colored Rex rabbit is still waiting for her forever home, and she is just as easygoing as ever. She does not mind being handled and settles right in, as you can see here with Deputy Chief Smith.

A few things to know: Hop Scotch came to us as a stray, so we do not have a known history for her, but she has been a calm, gentle girl in our care from day one. She will need an adopter who can provide a proper rabbit setup, and she will be spayed before she heads home.

The Laramie Police Department is asking for the public’s help with an ongoing investigation into a shooting that occurred on the night of August 20th in the 600 block of East Bradley Street.

During the initial response, officers located evidence that multiple rounds had been fired in the area. Further investigation determined that a nearby residence had been struck by gunfire multiple times. Fortunately, no one was inside the residence at the time and no injuries were reported.

As part of the investigation, surveillance footage was obtained, which showed several individuals in the area shortly after the shooting.

The quality of the footage does not provide a clear view of their faces, but we are asking anyone who may recognize these individuals based on their clothing, shoes, build, or other characteristics to contact us. Even if you are not certain, or believe the information you have may be insignificant, we would still like to hear from you.

We are also asking anyone who has information about the shooting, heard anything about it afterward, or has additional video from the area that has not already been provided to contact the Laramie Police Department.

Information can be provided by contacting Detective Schilt at 307-721-3557 or, if after hours, calling the LPD non-emergency line at (307) 721-2526 and referencing Case #26-14668.

This remains an active investigation.

What a great night at the Back to School Bash!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wyoming - Laramie put on a fantastic event, and we were happy to be part of it. The Laramie Police Department Foundation brought out the dunk tank, and the community brought their best throwing arms!

Ofc. Wakefield consistently demonstrates professionalism, compassion, and a genuine commitment to serving our community. She brings a strong work ethic to every shift and treats people with dignity and respect, especially during difficult and emotional moments.

Happy Fuzzy Friday!

Meet George, a large brown and white domestic shorthair and a sweet, social boy who is ready to find his forever home. George came to us as a stray, so his history is a bit of a mystery, but he has been nothing but friendly and easygoing in our care. He is pictured here with Nancy Oakland-Potter, Executive Assistant to the City Manager.

A few things to know: George is a mellow, people-loving guy who would settle right into just about any home. He will be vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped before he heads home.

Meet Officer Philbrick, the next familiar face in our schools this year!

Officer Philbrick has been with the Laramie Police Department for 18 years and is starting his fourth year as an SRO. He serves Laramie Middle School, Spring Creek Elementary, and Slade Elementary. His favorite subject growing up was PE, and these days his favorite part of the job is having positive interactions with the students!

Meet Sergeant Groose, the School Resource Officer (SRO) serving Laramie High School and Indian Paintbrush this year.

Sgt. Groose has been with the Laramie Police Department for 14 years and is starting his fourth year as an SRO. His favorite subject growing up was history, and these days his favorite part of the job is playing foursquare at recess.

Back to school means familiar faces are back in the halls!

Meet Officer Koontz, the School Resource Officer (SRO) serving Whiting High School, Snowy Range Academy, Montessori, and Linford Elementary this year.

Officer Koontz has been with the Laramie Police Department for two years and is starting his second year as an SRO. His favorite subject growing up was psychology, and these days his favorite part of the job is simple, recess with the kids!
