The Webb County Historical Commission cordially invites you to the series of events we are hosting and providing sponsorship. All of this in celebration of Laredo's 271 Birthday.

Casa Ortiz will open it's doors at 10am for an exhibit, conference and music. And at nighttime a laser show at our historic St. Agustin Cathedral.

All events free and open to the public.

We had fun in our Tortilla de Harina Workshop.
Before the workshop started we learned about Laredo's roll in the Mexican independence and the history behind our loved tortillas de harina.
Laredo played a passive roll when it became Mexico and gained its independence from the kingdom of Spain. The royal decrees read out loud at Zaragoza Plaza threatened anyone who was against the crown with death. But still the independence came and it's an important part of our history and who we are now.

Thank you Laredo Cultural District for being our partners in crime and thank you Casa Ortiz our home for proving a space for people to unite.

And thank you Raquel Alvarez for allowing us to learn and sharing your passion.

The most important mission of the Webb County Historical Commission is preserving the historical markers that are spread all over Webb county.

We create new ones with our ever evolving history, and maintain the over 60 markers present in Webb. We are one of the counties in Texas with the most markers narrating our history, notable residents and arquitecture.

Thank you commissioners Elisa Gutiérrez, Alfredo Gutiérrez and Zita Guerra for participating in this week's efforts to preserve the markers.

Thank you Butch Ramírez for volunteering your time, much appreciated.
