US 90 LANE CLOSURES FOR SAFETY ILLUMINATION WORK

DEL RIO Traffic Alert: Starting on June 1, 2026, work crews will begin safety illumination construction work on US 90W from one-quarter of a mile north of Las Brisas Blvd. to one-quarter of a mile south of SL 79 in Del Rio, thereby requiring one single lane closure on each side of the road, although most of the work will take place in the state right of way. TxDOT Laredo Click It or Ticket Event goes Bilingual and Binational.

At Laredo’s 24th Click It or Ticket event on May 27, 2026, messages about seat belt safety were shared in both English and Spanish. Doctors Hospital of Laredo who has partnered with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) since 2017 hosted the largest, most attended TxDOT CIOT traffic safety event of the year.

Law enforcement will be looking for drivers not wearing seat belts through May 31. Please remember to Click It or Ticket, and make sure children riding with you are properly secured.

The City of Laredo Police Department will run the CIOT enforcement campaign through May 31. Efforts to boost seat belt use will continue all year to help keep drivers and passengers safe.

Last year, 965 people who died in Texas traffic crashes were not wearing seat belts. While this is a 10 percent drop from the year before, many of these lives could have been saved if seat belts had been used, and fewer families would be grieving.

State law requires that everyone in a moving vehicle be secured with a seat belt. This applies to children as well. Any child younger than 8 years old must be restrained in a child car seat or booster seat unless they are taller than 4 feet 9 inches.

No one thinks they’ll be in a crash. That’s why it’s so important to buckle your seat belt every time you get in a vehicle. Whether you’re going a short or long distance, always buckle up in every seat, day and night.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says wearing a seat belt cuts the risk of dying in a crash by 45 percent for people in the front seat of a car. That risk drops by 60 percent if you’re in a pickup truck.

Texas began participating in the Click It or Ticket campaign in 2002.
