Recently my San Antonio Outreach Coordinators, Kelly Brooks and Adison Denham, recognized the Poteet Police Department last week in honor of National Police Week and presented a Congressional Recognition certificate to Police Chief Rex Newman, joined by City Administrator Melissa Popham and other officers, in appreciation of their continued dedication to public safety and service to the Poteet community.

I appreciate their commitment to protecting our communities and will continue working to support the important work of our law enforcement officers across the district.

My Outreach Coordinator Jesus Martinez, presented a Congressional Recognition on my behalf to MyPop Gourmet Popcorn in honor of its eight years of service to the community.

My Pop is a locally owned business in Laredo known for its unique popcorn offerings and strong support of local events, fundraisers, and community activities throughout the region.

I commend My Pop for its entrepreneurial spirit, community engagement, and continued commitment to serving the community!

My San Antonio Outreach Coordinator, Kelly Brooks, recently attended a meeting in Poteet hosted by the Texas Water Development Board alongside representatives from multiple cities in Atascosa County and the Nueces River Authority. The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between local and regional partners as they work together to address the county’s water needs. I’ll continue working with local leaders to support efforts that strengthen infrastructure and help meet the needs of our communities.

Recently my San Antonio Outreach Coordinator, Jesus Martinez, attended the Laredo Police Department Annual Awards Ceremony, where city officials and community leaders gathered to recognize and honor members of the department for their dedication, courage, and service to the people of Laredo. On my behalf, my office also presented Congressional Certificates during the ceremony.

The ceremony was a meaningful opportunity to recognize the outstanding work and sacrifice of the men and women who serve our community. I’m proud to stand behind our law enforcement officers and thank them for all they do.

My Laredo Outreach Coordinator, Frida Figueroa, recently attended a farewell dinner hosted by COMCE Noreste Capítulo Laredo and Mr. Eduardo Garza Robles in honor of Consul General Erika Zielke and her service in Nuevo Laredo. On my behalf, my office also presented Consul Zielke with a Congressional Recognition in appreciation of her efforts to strengthen binational relationships and foster cooperation between our communities.

Throughout her career, Consul Zielke has served in diplomatic and military roles around the world, bringing extensive experience and leadership to her position. I appreciate her dedication and service and wish her continued success in her future endeavors.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Their courage and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As we remember our fallen heroes, may we continue to uphold the values they fought to protect freedom, unity, and service to one another.

We mourn the loss of Homer Gallegos, a dedicated veteran advocate, respected community leader, and Past District 18 Commander and Past Post Commander of McAllen Post 8788. His lifelong commitment to serving veterans, his faith, and his family left a lasting impact on the Rio Grande Valley and all who knew him.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Gallegos family during this difficult time. May Homer’s legacy of service and compassion never be forgotten.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Comrade Homer Gallegos this morning. He was a Past District 18 Commander and a Past Post Commander of the McAllen Post 8788. Please keep his family and friends in your prayers. 🙏🏻🤍🕊️

This week, I continued working through the appropriations process while meeting with South Texas leaders, advocates, and constituents on issues important to our communities.

During a hearing with the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, I discussed the future of the new Audie L. Murphy VA Medical Center in San Antonio and the expansion/construction of the new Laredo VA Clinic to expand capacity and improve access to care for veterans across South Texas.

As part of the Energy and Water Appropriations process, I helped secure $5.5 million for the Southwest Border Regional Commission and continued efforts to move the Chacon Creek project forward in Laredo. I also supported the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act to help increase housing supply and bring down housing costs for working families.

I also welcomed several visitors from Hidalgo County and across the Rio Grande Valley, including representatives from LUPE, VIDA, local leaders, and community advocates. In addition, I spent time with the Texas Farm Bureau to talk about the importance of the Farm Bill and issues impacting farmers, ranchers, and rural communities across our state.

I’ll continue working in a bipartisan way to deliver for South Texas and address the issues impacting our communities every day.
