Last week, Laredo Police Officers from our Traffic Division conducted a Railroad Safety Traffic Operation focused on promoting safe driving habits around railroad crossings, which is something very familiar to Laredo. During the operation, 23 citations were issued for traffic violations.

🚆 Don’t take a familiar route for granted. Just because you drive the same road or cross the same railroad tracks every day doesn’t mean you can let your guard down. Railroad crossings can change in an instant; a train may be approaching, visibility may be limited, or traffic may prevent you from safely clearing the tracks.

⚠️ Slow down, stay alert, and obey all railroad signals/ crossing gates. Never drive around lowered gates, and never stop on the tracks.

Most importantly, don’t take the risk just to save a few seconds. Take your time, and make the safe choice to make it home.

‼️The Laredo Police Department is aware of a social media trend circulating online referred to as the “Cat in the Hat” trend.

We want to remind our community, particularly students and parents, that threatening posts are not a joke. Any social media post, message, image, or other communication that contains a threat or causes fear or alarm within our schools or community will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.

Individuals who participate in this trend by posting threatening content may face criminal charges and arrest when supported by the facts and applicable law, regardless of whether the post was intended as a prank or joke.

Before you post, think about the consequences. A few seconds on social media can result in a police investigation, school disciplinary action, and potentially serious criminal consequences.

If you see or receive a threatening post, do not repost or circulate it. Report it immediately to (956)795-2800.

For many, Sunday mornings are a time for coffee, breakfast, and good conversation—a simple comfort that many fortunate Laredoans enjoy. But for some of our fellow citizens, those basic comforts are not a given. That’s why, before heading off to their shift, the officers of the November Platoon take time to make a difference. They gather care packages filled with everyday necessities, such as toothpaste and personal hygiene products, and spend time sitting, visiting, and sharing a conversation with members of our city’s unsheltered community. It’s a simple gesture of kindness, but one that reminds us that sometimes, the most meaningful thing we can give someone is our time and compassion.

Some acts of service never make it into a department memo. They don’t appear in a training manual, and they certainly don’t require a uniform or a badge.

On this Sunday morning, the officers of the November Platoon went above and beyond. Before heading out for their shift, they picked up coffee and breakfast and made time to share a little Sunday cheer with some of the members of our community who may need it most.

There were conversations. There were smiles. There was a little “cafesito.” ☕❤️ And, for a few moments, there was simply human connection.

Because while law enforcement officers are trained to protect, respond, and serve, compassion is something that can’t always be taught. It comes from within. And our officers came pre-installed with one of the most important qualities a law enforcement officer can have: compassion.

A cup of coffee may seem like a small gesture, but taking the time to sit with someone, listen to them, share a smile, and remind them that they are seen and valued can mean so much more.

Thank you to Sgt. Gilbert Perez, Sgt. Hector Diaz and the officers of the November Platoon for showing us another side of what it means to serve our community. Your actions are a reminder that service isn’t always about what we do for people—it’s also about how we make them feel.

This morning, Laredo Police Department officers from the Traffic Division along with other local law enforcement agencies participated in the Union Pacific C.A.R.E.S. (Crossing Accident Reduction Education and Safety) Operation.🚂

The intent of this program was to make a positive impact on the number of highway-rail grade crossing incidents in Webb County. This program also educates the motoring public on traffic laws and regulations at highway-rail grade crossings to improve driver behavior.🛤️🚙

This operation was also a reminder that safety starts with all of us. A few extra seconds of patience can make a lifetime of difference.🚓

Drivers are encouraged to stop every time they see a railroad signal flashing its red lights. Failure to stop could end up in a hefty citation. Let’s work together to make every crossing a safe one.

He’s been found!!

We are happy to report that the dog that was abused by being bound and covered with a pillow case over his head was found this morning in South Laredo. Thanks to a citizen who called us to report seeing the dog in the area, LPD officers, Ali Cavazos and Jorge Sanchez from the Kilo Platoon were eventually able to find him a few moments later and hung out with him while animal care arrived to the scene. The dog was very tame despite his recent experiences. Our new buddy was found malnourished and had a minor injury to one of his legs. He is now with a veterinarian where he will get care and get back to health. We’re just happy he was found and is gonna be alright. Let’s show our new pal some love and send good vibes. Let’s share this post and spread the great news!! 🙌

The Laredo Police Department Arrests Woman in Animal Cruelty Investigation; Flock Camera Technology Assists Investigators.

The Laredo Police Department has arrested a 60-year-old woman in connection with an animal cruelty investigation that began on August 21, 2026, after a passerby reported seeing a dog in distress near the intersection of Pine Street and South Bartlett Avenue.

Officers responded to the area and learned that the dog had reportedly been restrained with a rag covering its head and was bound with restraints. Before officers arrived, two individuals reportedly assisted the animal, which then ran from the area. An LPD investigation was then initiated to identify the owner of the dog.

During the investigation, Flock Safety camera technology played a significant role in helping investigators identify a suspect vehicle. That identification provided valuable investigative leads that ultimately led investigators to identify the suspect.

As a result of the investigation, Maria Teresa Garcia, 60, was arrested on August 26, 2026, shortly before noon and served with an arrest warrant for Animal Cruelty, a Class A Misdemeanor.

The Laredo Police Department remains committed to utilizing available technology and investigative resources to identify those responsible for criminal activity and hold offenders accountable.

Despite several attempts to locate the canine, the dog has not been found.
