Today marked a proud milestone for 12 members of PGFD Career Recruit School Class #74 as Fire Chief Thelmetria Michaelides and staff presented them with their helmets signifying the completion of recruit school. In the coming days, they will begin serving our community. The remainder of CRS #74 continues their training as they work toward graduation in November. Members of PGFD Career Recruit School #74 continue to race to their graduation date in November. Tomorrow, 12 members of the class who have completed their training at the PGFD Training and Leadership Academy will be assigned to stations around the county and begin their Probationary Firefighter service. To celebrate this achievement, CRS #74 completed a 5 mile run over the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

Earlier today, Fire Chief Thelmetria Michaelides, the Command Staff, members of the PGFD Human Resources Office, and instructors with the PGCPS Fire Science Academy hosted a closing ceremony for the Youth@Work/SYEP Summer Youth Cadets serving with the PGFD. Cadets demonstrated new skills, presented information about HazMat response, and offered their thoughts and reflections on their summer spent serving in fire stations across the county. The Cadets expressed their thanks for the mentorship provided by their instructors and station personnel. Several Cadets spoke about learning how to stay cool under pressure, manage emotion and increased self-discipline as highlights of their summer. Congratulations to our Cadets, we look forward to your future service with the PGFD!

Last night, Fire Chief Michaelides and members of the PGFD joined County Executive Aisha Braveboy, our public safety partners, and thousands of Prince George’s County residents to celebrate National Night Out 2026 in our communities.

National Night Out is an annual nationwide event that strengthens the partnership between residents and public safety- building safer, stronger, and more connected neighborhoods.

Interested in making your community safer? The PGFD Office of Community Relations & Engagement offers FREE fire and life safety education programs for neighborhoods, community groups, schools, and organizations. To learn more or schedule a presentation, call 301-883-5250.

What an incredible Family Night at the PGFD Training & Leadership Academy!

Fire Chief Thelmetria Michaelides, DCAO Melvin Powell, and staff were proud to welcome the families and friends of Career Recruit School #74 for an exciting evening of fellowship, demonstrations and a behind-the-scenes look at recruit training.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to cheer on our recruits. Your love, support, and encouragement make a real difference as they push through their training.

CRS #74 is almost ready to cross the finish line. We can’t wait to celebrate their graduation in November!
