Barron is an experienced attorney and public servant, having served at every level of government. Currently, he is in private practice with Whiteford, Taylor & Preston, LLP, a business law firm with a storied history in Maryland. Erek counsels individuals, businesses, and nonprofits in a variety of legal areas, providing solutions and helping them achieve their goals. Prior to private practice, Er

ek served as a state and federal prosecutor. As an assistant state’s attorney in Prince George’s County, he helped victims of violent crime and various property crimes find justice. During this time, Mr. Barron was honored by the Maryland State’s Attorneys’ Association for his exemplary service and received citations for outstanding public service from the Maryland legislature and the Governor. As a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Justice Department, Erek travelled throughout Maryland and the country combating regional and international gangs. Later, Erek served as an advisor to then-Senator Joseph R. and the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. He was lead counsel for the Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs, oversaw activities within the U.S. Justice Department, and he served as a liaison to state and federal law enforcement agencies. Erek was also intimately involved in the confirmations of two U.S. Attorneys General and a variety of senior U.S. Justice Department and law enforcement officials. Erek capped his government service as an appointee to President Obama's Transition Team where he worked with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and others to ensure a smooth transition for the U.S. Department of Justice. He also advised the Obama Administration on justice and civil rights issues. Beyond his public service, Erek serves the public through his participation on various bar associations, including the American Bar Association and the National Bar Association. In these and other organizations, he has served in leadership roles focusing on legal services to the poor – with an emphasis on the foreclosure crisis – and on mentoring youth. Currently, Erek is a board member of the Maryland Legal Aid Bureau, Inc. and the Lake Arbor Foundation, Inc. Erek is a graduate of The George Washington University Law School and the University of Maryland at College Park where he was a student-athlete and member of the football team. Erek also earned an advanced law degree at the Georgetown University Law Center. He lives in Bowie with his wife Taria Barron and they worship at Reid Temple AME church in Glenn Dale, Maryland.
