Today, the OIT team attended the Bowie State University Center for Data Analytics AI and Data Science Conference, where students from Prince George’s County showcased innovative, community-focused solutions powered by AI.

Their projects included:
• A climate evaluation tool
• A heart arrhythmia predictor designed to identify potential heart attacks
• A course selection platform that connects academic choices to career outcomes
• A hospital readmission analysis highlighting pneumonia as a condition requiring targeted intervention

These presentations underscored how students at Maryland’s oldest HBCU are leveraging artificial intelligence to address real-world challenges and drive meaningful impact in their communities.

Success doesn’t happen overnight — it’s built through dedication, opportunity, and perseverance.

Today we are proud to highlight an incredible journey within Prince George’s County OIT. What started as a Summer Youth participant turned into four years of learning and growth, followed by two years as an intern, five years serving as a contractor, and now the well-deserved milestone of becoming a full-time OIT employee.

This journey reflects more than career progression — it represents commitment, resilience, and the power of investing in our youth and workforce pipeline.

County Executive Aisha Braveboy says, “Innovation Hackathon” Showcases Prince George’s County’s Technology Future!

Largo, MD – Prince George’s County Executive Aisha Braveboy said she’s looking forward to her Office of Information Technology’s (OIT) exciting “Innovation Hackathon” being held Wednesday, February 11th,2026 in partnership with Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) and Cloudforce, a Prince George’s County-based technology firm and Microsoft Gold Partner.

“In Prince George’s County, we are leaders in the technology space and a hub for technology innovation, as well as a catalyst for our young people to be at the center of its development,” said County Executive Braveboy. “Our OIT team’s “Innovation Hackathon” is a brilliant idea for putting all the right elements together – our great educational institutions, our students, and our technology partners. This is another step in building the career pipeline for our students.”

Innovation Hackathon is an all-day event hosted at Prince George’s Community College from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event brings together students and technologists to develop solutions that support county services, public safety, cybersecurity, and community engagement. The successful launch closed with 120 registered participants, with interest beyond capacity.

Innovation Hackathon participants will compete across four tracks: Citizen-Facing Services, OIT Strategy Focused, Cyber Clinic at PGCC, and General Innovation. Teams are allowed to use GitHub, nebulaONE®, AI tools, or any free open-source software to build their solutions.

Judging will be led by:
Vennard Wright, Director of OIT;
Duane Prophet, Associate Director of OIT;
Dr. Rhonda Spells, VP for Data Science, Innovation, and Effectiveness at PGCC;
Husein Sharaf of Cloudforce; and
Mark Lawrence and his team representing Inncuvate and Angarai

OIT staff and technology partners will mentor participants throughout the day, providing guidance and expertise to transform ideas into practical applications that advance Prince George’s County’s technology vision. The “hackathon” supports key elements of the County’s Office of Information Technology Strategic Plan by strengthening the local tech ecosystem, building a technology career pipeline, and advancing digital government solutions that enhance services for residents. The initiative also reflects Prince George’s County’s broader vision for a technology driven community where youth opportunities, first class education, and economic growth are powered by local technology experts and innovation right here in the County.
