Founded in 1905, Rotary International is a global network of 1.4 million men and women across 35,000 clubs to unite and take action to create lasting change in local communities. Since 1954, the Rotary Club of Largo has been one of these clubs. Our club members are dynamic, involved business owners, community leaders and individuals joining together for friendship, to volunteer, to network, and to

engage in service projects, fundraisers and more! Our signature fundraiser is Death by Chocolate held each December, whereby patrons enjoy dessert samples from local restaurants and businesses. All net proceeds support a huge list of youth initiatives and programs in the greater Largo area and Rotary-sponsored programs. We are also active throughout the year at various community events, including the Old Fashioned Christmas Parade. We meet weekly at Sages West Bay Bistro at 12 noon with a community speaker.

Sharing this email received today about Dr. Sandra Lilo. She visited our club many times to speak on the Rotary Foundation and her efforts as a dental surgeon serving children in their third world countries.
✨️ ✨️. ✨️

Dear District 6950 Rotarians,

Earlier this month, our Rotary family lost Sandra Jean Lilo, our District International Service Chair and a dedicated member and Past President of the Rotary Club of Seminole Lake.

Sandra lived a remarkable life of service...to her country as a United States Air Force veteran, to her community, to Rotary, and to people around the world. Her compassion, generosity, and commitment to helping others truly reflected the very best of Rotary.

I am attaching information regarding Sandra’s Celebration of Life, which will be held on Saturday, September 26, from 3:00–6:00 p.m. at Traditions on Tyrone in St. Petersburg, for anyone in our district who would like to attend and honor her memory.

We 💙💛 this time of year, what an evening!

Some highlights from our annual installation dinner included induction of a new Rotarian, and 2 awards: Rotarian of The Year and Service Above Self. ✨️

Not only did outgoing president Ward Johansen hand the gavel to incoming president Thomas McGuire -- who was himself inducted by Area 2 Governor Mary Fiorentino, we welcomed a new board of directors, and inducted a new Rotarian into the Rotary Club of Largo. Congratulations to all! 🎊

🎊 Congrats to Ward Johansen and Thomas McGuire ! 🎊 Our annual installation dinner was last night! The Rotary fiscal year runs from July 1st - June 30th. ️That means a new president and new board of directors, and each year we celebrate with a special dinner.

Last night outgoing president Ward Johansen handed the gavel to incoming president Thomas McGuire. We are all very excited for both Ward, who will enjoy the coveted role of Past President and Tom, who steps into an exciting year of leadership! ✨️

Rotary has long believed that strong communities are built through service, leadership, and fellowship. Throughout Rotary's history, clubs around the world have used the summer months to plan projects that address local needs and prepare for a new Rotary year beginning July 1.

School's out but we are still learning! At our last meeting we awarded grants to 2 organizations, one of which is the Girls in Pearls program at Ridgecrest Elementary School in Largo. Congratulations!! 🎊 Pictured is our president Ward Johansen, Sharon Gage from Ridgecrest, and sponsor Maria Kadau.

We 💯 are so proud to support the Largo Youth Leadership Council, sponsored by the City of Largo, Florida USA. Another civic program we award a grant to from Death by Chocolate 2025 🍫 -- congratulations!

These motivated 8th through 12th-grade students participate in community service, earn volunteer hours, and take part in city-wide initiatives such as environmental awareness, neighborhood beautification, and the annual Youth Mental Health Festival. The council provides a direct voice for the younger generation to the Largo City Commission, allowing students to learn about municipal operations and shadow city leaders.

👐 WOW 👐 Shout out to the AMAZING presentation from Sounding Joy yesterday, an organization that provides hearing aids to Tampa Bay area children and families who cannot afford them. Founder & Executive Director Christy Vogel shared her own personal story and drastic statistics about the likelihood with people with hearing loss for substance use and suicides.
