This Saturday, four Pawnee County 4-H members and their canine companions will compete in the Kansas State Fair 4-H Dog Show!

🐾 Best of luck to Addison, Amara, Annison, and Edith!

Through the 4-H Dog Project, members build skills in teamwork, responsibility and communication while preparing to compete in areas such as showmanship, obedience, rally obedience, and agility.

A special thank you to Dog Project leaders Keri, Jennifer, and Lois for the time, practices, encouragement, and support they’ve given these youth along the way!

🍀 A Season of Learning, Teamwork & Tenacity!

Nine Pawnee County 4-H members wrapped up their livestock judging season at the 2026 Kansas 4-H State Livestock Sweepstakes in Manhattan, August 22–23!

But their season was about much more than one weekend. Beginning with practices in February, these youth showed tremendous tenacity as they continued showing up, competing and building their skills throughout the year. 🐄🐑🐖🐐

Along the way, members competed at the Southwest District 4-H/FFA Judging Contest in Dodge City, Way Out West Livestock Judging in Leoti, Super Saturday at Fort Hays State University, the Blue Dragon Classic in Lyons, and the Pawnee County Fair Livestock Judging Contest before finishing their season at State Sweepstakes.

We’re proud of the time, effort and growth these 4-H members demonstrated along the way. Thank you to the coaches, families and community members who helped make these experiences possible! 💚

Grayson, Pawnee County, is our State 4-H Award Recipient in the Self-Determined Project.
In his own words: In the Self Determined project, I championed my future by starting a diversified farm business by combining my livestock and horticulture projects. My siblings and I started Maxwell Kids Farm to Table by selling livestock wholesale, veggies at the market and farm fresh eggs. When the business grew, I implemented a wholesale meat license to sell pork, lamb and beef retail meat out of my Farm store. I am an Ag advocate and promote our farm products by having meat samples, giving farm tours and educating the community on Online social media sites. I have learned how to market, design a logo and lead youth on how to participate in the youth entrepreneurship contest. I enhanced my 4-H projects into a viable business in our rural community.

This two-day, hands-on educational event is designed to give beef producers practical tools they can take home and put to work immediately. Through a combination of classroom sessions, live demonstrations, and small-group learning, participants will gain research-based knowledge while connecting with K-State specialists, industry professionals, and fellow producers.

Topics include:
- Beef cattle nutrition
- Growth-promoting implants
- Vaccine handling & cooler construction
- Neonatal calf care
- Reproductive management
- Meeting with your lender & agricultural finance
- Prescribed burning
