Today’s groundbreaking for Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) - Southern New Mexico represents more than the start of a new building — it marks a major investment in the future workforce of Southern New Mexico.

This project is about creating opportunities, strengthening the skilled trades, and preparing the next generation of electricians and industry professionals right here in Las Cruces. As demand continues to grow in manufacturing, energy, construction, and advanced industries, workforce development remains one of the most important pieces of economic development.

At MVEDA, we are proud to support apprenticeship and workforce training programs that help build a stronger regional economy and provide meaningful career pathways for local residents. This facility will stand as a testament to the talent, dedication, and opportunity that exists in our region.

Recognition goes to Gentry L. Roberts, Executive Director of SNMIEC, who worked alongside MVEDA to identify opportunities to create advanced certifications and to enhance skill sets within the electrical trades. Through the hashtag initiative, we helped fund 24 individuals pursuing either Project Manager or Foreman certifications — strengthening leadership and workforce capacity across the industry.

Kudos as well to RT Electric, Inc., LE Electric Inc , Bryan Eichelberger, and Kevin Tegmeyer for their leadership, vision, and long-term commitment to growing the electrical trades in Southern New Mexico. Your dedication is helping create lasting impact for our communities and future generations.
