A free car seat inspection and fitting station will be available to the public on Thursday, September 3, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Sisbarro Buick-GMC, located at 425 W. Boutz Road in Las Cruces.

Nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will provide car seat inspections and hands-on assistance to help parents and caregivers ensure child safety and booster seats are properly selected, installed and used.

Inspections are free and will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointment is required.

Participants are encouraged to bring their car seat, car seat manual, vehicle owner’s manual, and the child who uses the seat.

If a car seat is determined to be recalled, expired, damaged or otherwise unsafe, a replacement seat may be available for $35. Replacement seats must be paid for in cash, and participants must bring the exact $35 amount. No change will be available. The child must be present to be eligible for a replacement seat.

During the fitting station:
• Certified technicians will spend approximately 30 minutes per seat helping parents and caregivers learn the proper selection, installation and use of car seats and booster seats.
• Participants will learn about common car seat safety errors and have an opportunity to ask questions.
• Technicians will inspect seats for proper fit, installation, expiration dates, recalls and other potential safety concerns.
• Replacement seats will be available for $35 when a technician determines whether a replacement is necessary. Exact cash is required.

Car seat fitting stations are funded by the New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division and are available to the public.

For more information about upcoming car seat fitting stations, visit Safer New Mexico at safernm.org/events or call 800-231-6145.

Doña Ana County recognizes an organization that has been part of the history and growth of our region for more than a century.

For 125 years, El Paso Electric has helped power the homes, businesses, schools, and essential services that keep our communities moving forward. Behind that reliable service are more than 1,200 employees who work every day to serve customers across southern New Mexico and west Texas.

Beyond keeping the lights on, El Paso Electric has also been a valued community partner, supporting local nonprofits, schools, and community initiatives through volunteerism and charitable giving.

We extend our sincere appreciation to its employees, retirees, and community partners for the many ways they have contributed to our region over the past 125 years. Here's to the next chapter! 🎉

Celebrating the Hatch Chile Festival! 🌶️

For more than 50 years, the Hatch Chile Festival has brought residents and visitors together to celebrate the agriculture, culture, traditions, and community spirit of the Hatch Valley.

From its beginnings as a small gathering of local farmers in 1971 to a Labor Day tradition attracting more than 30,000 visitors, the festival has become a treasured part of southern New Mexico, and a celebration of the chile that put the Village of Hatch on the map.

The Doña Ana County Board of County Commissioners is proud to recognize the Hatch Chile Festival for its contributions to our county’s culture, agriculture, economy, and community.

Please join us September 5–6, 2026, as we celebrate the people, traditions, and agricultural heritage that make the Hatch Valley so special.

This week, we celebrate the Promotoras/Community Health Workers (CHWs) who help make Doña Ana County a healthier, stronger community.

CHWs are trusted members of the communities they serve. They build relationships, connect people with health and social services, help reduce barriers to care, and advocate for the needs of their neighbors. Their work reaches far beyond a clinic or office; it happens in the places where people live, work, and call home.

To the Promotoras/Community Health Workers serving Doña Ana County: thank you for showing up, building trust, connecting people to resources, and making a difference every day. We appreciate all that you do for our community! 👏💙

Spend the Day with Vector Control- Part 2!🦟

The 24 hours are up, and it’s time to see what the mosquito traps caught!

In Part 2, we’re following the Vector Control team as they collect each trap, check the mosquitoes that were captured, and carefully transport the samples to New Mexico State University.

At NMSU, the mosquitoes are tested for disease-causing pathogens that can pose a risk to our community. This surveillance helps our teams better understand mosquito activity and monitor for diseases that mosquitoes can transmit. 🔬🧪

A big thank 🦟🦟🦟🦟🌳🦟🌳🦟you to our Vector Control team for the important work they do to help keep our community informed and protected!
