Spaceport America was proud to welcome the Aerospace States Association during its 34th Annual Meeting and 7th Policy Summit in New Mexico. 🙌

Lieutenant governors and aerospace industry leaders from across the country visited the spaceport for a panel discussion on airspace access and opportunities for inland spaceports, followed by tours of the Gateway to Space and our runway.

A highlight of the visit was witnessing Pluto Aerospace’s inaugural launch at Spaceport America. Congratulations to Pluto Aerospace and founder Christopher Nilsen on this exciting milestone! We are proud to provide a place where emerging aerospace companies can test new technologies and take important steps toward the future of flight.

Events like this showcase the infrastructure, airspace and partnerships that make New Mexico a leading destination for aerospace innovation, testing and launch operations.

Thank you to the Aerospace States Association, Lt. Governor Howie Morales and everyone who helped bring industry leaders together to experience New Mexico’s growing aerospace ecosystem firsthand.

20 years of Spaceport America means 20 years of making space for innovation. 🚀

Not every company that works at Spaceport America calls it home.

Over the past two decades, Spaceport America has built more than a home for its tenants. It has created a place where companies, agencies, researchers and innovators can come to test what’s next.

Boeing is one example of how those partnerships can grow over time. In 2017, Boeing used Spaceport America to test the parachute system for its CST-100 Starliner, helping validate technology designed to safely return astronauts to Earth.

Nearly a decade later, Boeing returned to Spaceport America to test its new Ultra Low-Cost Seeker, a radar technology being developed for offensive and defensive missile systems. Testing at Spaceport America included tracking an unmanned aircraft from the ground and testing the seeker aboard a surrogate rocket during a high-speed flight.

From commercial spaceflight to emerging aerospace and defense technologies, partnerships like these demonstrate what Spaceport America was built to do: provide the infrastructure, airspace and support innovators need to put new ideas to the test.

But what does that actually mean?

According to a six-year economic impact study from NMSU’s Arrowhead Center and Center for Border Economic Development, Spaceport America generated $110.8 million in value-added production in NM in 2024.

The study also found that Spaceport America’s operations and activities supported 790 total jobs, nearly $240 million in economic output, $73.1 million in labor income and $24.4 million in total tax impact that year.

And that’s just one part of the Spaceport America story.

As we celebrate 20 years of Spaceport America, we're looking back at the people, places, and milestones that have shaped our journey, and it all starts with one question: Why here? Why New Mexico? 🚀

When people think about space exploration, New Mexico isn't the first place that comes to mind, but for decades, it's been helping shape the future of aerospace.

With wide open skies, one of the nation's largest areas of restricted airspace, favorable weather, and a unique desert landscape, southern New Mexico provides an ideal environment for flight testing and commercial space operations. Those natural advantages helped make Spaceport America the world's first purpose-built commercial spaceport, and for nearly 20 years, companies from around the world have come here to test, innovate, and push what's possible. Innovation doesn't only happen on the coasts. Sometimes, it starts right here in the Land of Enchantment.

We recently welcomed Elephant Butte Mayor Richard Holcomb and Shauna Cameron (the new CEO of Sierra Vista Hospital in TorC) to Spaceport America! It was a great opportunity to show Shauna around the facility and connect her with our Fire Team to discuss our mutual aid agreement with Sierra County.

The University of New Mexico Engineering Student Success Center staff brought dozens of high school students from the greater Albuquerque area to our site in June for an afternoon of low-apogee rocket launches and learning ✨

Get your wings at Spaceport America ✈️

Students from throughout Doña Ana County visited Spaceport America in June as part of the AKC Aviation Camp, put on by New Mexico State Senator Bill Soules (District 37, Doña Ana), personnel from New Mexico State University, and the Soules Aero-Knowledge Center 🚀

The trip to spaceport during the week-long camp showed students some of the many aspects of aviation and aerospace careers.
