Memorial Day we remember. Some gave all. When visiting my grandfather I remember how proud he was of me in every way, but especially for my service. He passed when I was in Iraq in 2006. My unit sent me home for his funeral. had my dress uniform sent back to Vegas from Germany so I could honor him.

I was home for 3 weeks in the middle of a deployment that changed the lives of so many of the amazing soldiers I served with and their families.

None more than the family of Ignacio “Nacho” Ramirez. Nacho gave his last full measure of devotion to our nation in August that year. I met his mother for the first time today and we remembered.
We remembered his humor, his love for family and friends, his sacrifice.

Be gentle with yourself today friends. Remember. Celebrate those who served and are no longer with us…..especially those families and friends who gave all.
