Foster Kinship

Foster Kinship Foster Kinship provides free programs for kinship caregivers in NV.

By helping to “keep home in the family”, we envision a safe and healthy childhood for ALL children in kinship care. Foster Kinship was established as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2011 to help the 30,000 children living with relative caregivers in Nevada, also known as kinship care. Foster Kinship was founded with a mission to “strengthen the kinship caregivers’ capacity to provide safe, permanent,

and nurturing homes for children.”

Nationally recognized, Foster Kinship is the only non-profit organization in Nevada exclusively serving kinship children and families. Since its inception, Foster Kinship has proudly served over 15,000 children and kinship caregivers across Nevada.

Dear Friends of Foster Kinship,

We have exciting news to share.

Foster Kinship has named Sara Colvin as its first President and CEO. Sara begins her role on June 16, 2026, and we could not be more confident in this next chapter.

Sara is a Las Vegas Valley resident and brings with her nearly 20 years of experience in organizational leadership and philanthropy. She is one of approximately 70 Certified Fund Raising Executives (CFRE) in Nevada and has a proven record of building strong systems, leading teams through growth, and securing meaningful investment for mission-driven organizations. She brings both professional expertise and personal connection to kinship care, and she is deeply committed to the families Foster Kinship serves.

Sara is building on an extraordinary foundation. Ali Caliendo founded Foster Kinship in 2010 with a clear belief: kids deserve family, and families deserve support. Over 16 years, she and her team grew the organization into a nationally recognized, evidence-based model that has served more than 24,000 children and helped reshape how kinship care is understood and supported across Nevada and the country.

Following a transition period supporting leadership onboarding, Ali will continue her connection to Foster Kinship as a contracted Strategic Advisor focused on national policy, systems change, Kinship University, and strategic expansion efforts.

Our important mission continues, and we are confident that it is in very good hands.

We invite you to join us soon for a community open house to welcome Sara and celebrate what Foster Kinship has built and where it is headed. Details to follow.

Thank you for being part of this community. Your belief in this work is what makes it possible.

Warmly,
Nancy Myster
On behalf of the Foster Kinship Board of Directors

Every year, approximately 30,000 children in Nevada are being raised by grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, and close family friends.

Many of these caregivers never expected to become parents again. They stepped in because a child they love needed them.

When children can't safely remain with their parents, keeping them connected to family, culture, community, and the people they know and trust can make a lifelong difference.

That's where Foster Kinship comes in.

We provide support, resources, education, advocacy, and community for kinship caregivers, children, youth, birth parents, and adoptive families across Nevada.

Because children deserve more than survival. They deserve stability, healing, belonging, and the chance to thrive.

And families shouldn't have to do it alone. 💛

At Foster Kinship, lived experience matters. 💙

During National Foster Care Month, we are incredibly proud to share that our team member, Maria, was featured in a publication by the Child Welfare Information Gateway highlighting her journey through the child welfare system and the work she now does supporting families.

Maria’s story is powerful because it reflects so many sides of the child welfare journey. As a birth parent, kinship caregiver, family advocate, and now Lead Peer Parent Advocate, she brings compassion, understanding, and firsthand experience into every family she supports.

At Foster Kinship, many of our staff members have personally experienced kinship care, foster care, adoption, reunification, or other parts of the child welfare system. That lived experience helps shape our programs, our advocacy, and the way we walk alongside families with empathy, dignity, and understanding.

We are so proud of Maria for using her voice to help create change and support other families navigating difficult journeys. 💛

💛 Our community always shows up when families need support! And right now, we are in need of Pull-Ups sizes 2T–6T!

These are one of the most requested items for the children we serve, and our shelves are running low. Any brand, any character, day or nighttime, and any package quantity helps!

Many of the caregivers we support step in unexpectedly to care for children, often overnight, and essentials like Pull-Ups can quickly become a financial strain. Donations like these help us make sure families have what they need right away.

📍 Donations can be dropped off or shipped to:
Foster Kinship
8691 W Sahara Ave
Las Vegas, NV 89117

🕒 Donation Drop-Off Hours:
Tuesday–Friday: 9AM–7PM
Saturday: 8AM–4PM

Every package makes a difference for a child and caregiver in our community. Thank you for always helping us show up for families when they need it most 💙

The Block Party is for the families… but honestly? Our staff loves it too 💛🎉

This event is one of the highlights of our year because it brings together so many of the things that matter most to our community, kids laughing, caregivers connecting, families making memories, and a space where everyone can simply relax and have FUN together.

In this reel, our team shares some of the reasons they love Block Party:
🍿 The popcorn and cotton candy
🎯 The games and activities
😊 The smiles on the kids’ faces
💙 The connections families make
✨ And the chance for kids to just be kids

It’s one of those nights that reminds all of us why community matters so much.

Thank you again to every family, volunteer, sponsor, and community partner who helped make this year’s event so special!

WOW. What a night. 💛🎉

Our 2026 Foster Kinship Block Party was filled with laughter, connection, cupcakes, basketball, games, prizes, and over 400 kids served throughout the evening!

To every family who came out to celebrate with us, thank you for making this event so special. Seeing kids laugh, play, and simply enjoy being kids in a space built just for them means everything to us.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped make tonight possible:

🍔 In-N-Out Burger for feeding our families
🏀 Hoop Las Vegas for bringing the basketball fun
🧁 Freed’s Bakery for the delicious cupcakes
💙 Our incredible sponsors, Canyon Ridge Christian Church and HopSkipDrive
🙌 And the amazing volunteer team from MGM who showed up ready to help wherever needed

Events like this only happen because of community. Thank you for helping us create spaces where families can breathe, connect, heal, and have FUN together.

Tonight was such a beautiful reminder that support can look like joy, laughter, sticky cotton candy fingers, and kids running around with huge smiles on their faces. 💕

And of course, we can’t forget our very important special guest appearance from Princeton Devonshire 🐶💛

We’ll be sharing more photos and videos from this amazing night later this week!

✨ Cub & Tots is back next month and we’re now filling our waitlist! 💛

Cub & Tots is a nurturing early childhood program for children ages 3–5 designed to help little ones build confidence, connection, emotional regulation, and school readiness skills in a safe, trauma-informed environment.

Through play, structured activities, social interaction, and caring support from our team, children are able to grow while caregivers receive a few hours to breathe, recharge, and focus on their own needs.

This program is centered around Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) principles and led by trained practitioners on our team. Cub & Tots was intentionally created to support children who may struggle in traditional preschool settings and provides a gentle, connection-focused environment where they can thrive. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for children preparing to enter kindergarten this fall!

Cub & Tots is open to families in all Foster Kinship programs, including kinship caregivers, families in our Thriving After program (adoption and legal guardianship support), and families in our Family Forward reunification and transition support program.

A HUGE thank you to our amazing Block Party sponsors, Canyon Ridge Christian Church and HopSkipDrive, for helping make Wednesday’s Foster Kinship Block Party possible 💛🎪

Because of community partners like these, we’re able to create spaces where children and caregivers can laugh, connect, play, and simply enjoy being together.

At Foster Kinship, we believe healing doesn’t only happen in appointments and support groups. Sometimes healing looks like carnival games, cotton candy, music, prizes, and joyful memories made together. Fun matters too 💙

We are so grateful for partners who continue to invest in children and families across our community, not only through supporting services, but through helping create experiences that remind families they are seen, valued, and celebrated.

✨ There’s still time to become a sponsor for this year’s Block Party!
