100% Community COVID Safety Challenge

12.14.20

This is a youth led public messaging campaign around COVID safety and why we fight to keep our communities safe during the pandemic. We are calling on our youth from San Miguel, Mora and Pecos schools to let their creative juices flow and design a video that will help get the message out about how we practice COVID safety and why we do it. Because of our collaborative efforts with the City of Las Vegas and other community partners, we will give participation awards and a few grand prizes for the best video(s) submitted. This is a united effort - all of us against COVID-19. Please see the criteria to participate.

STEPS:

1. Video must be personalized 25-30 seconds long, created in landscape (phone held horizontal) using the script provided.

2. Script: Start your video saying - We are 100% Community – everyone working together to help one another – and this is our COVID safety challenge. I fight COVID by (fill in the blank) for/so, (fill in the blank).

3. Now that you say how you fight covid and your reasons why, end your video with “Now I challenge (fill In the blank)” (name a person or group you wish to challenge to do their own video)

4. When you’ve completed your video, post it to Facebook and/or Instagram and tag the person you challenged. You may also post it on TikTok etc, but participation will only be tracked on Facebook and Instagram. Make sure to use the hashtags below that apply to you. This is how we will track the videos submitted and determine what videos are selected to be part of the finished media product and determine prizes.

#100Community
#TurnSanMiguelGreen
#TurnMoraGreen

5. Deadline to post your video is 12/31/20 by 12 midnight.

6. Top videos will be chosen on 1/6/21

An edited compilation will be created into a finished media product. These videos will be disseminated to local, state and national media. Media releases will be required for students selected to be included in the finished product.

Hello Parents and Students:

Las Vegas City Schools, in cooperation with several local entities, have setup an additional 7 locations around the Las Vegas Area for students to be able to access a Wi-Fi hotspot. These locations are:

• Tractor Supply Co. – 29 NM Hwy 518
• Enchanted Hills Mobile Home Park – 2701 7th St.
• Hanna Park – 445 Legion Dr.
• Monte Vista Apartment – 500 Mountain View Dr.
• Abe Montoya Recreation Center – 1751 N. Grand Ave.
• PNM Building – 420 Railroad Ave.
• Immaculate Conception Church – 811 6th St.

At these locations you will see a Las Vegas City Schools bus or other LVCS vehicle. Park as close as you can to the vehicle and on your device you will see the following two wireless networks:

• LVCS_Smartbus_2.4Ghz (better if you have to park far away as it has a longer range)
• LVCS_Smartbus_5Ghx (better if you can park close as it has less interference)

After selecting one of these two networks, enter the password, “Cardinals!” to connect.
Also remember that we still have the following location available as well:

• Old Memorial Middle School Parking Lot – 947 Old National Rd.
• Robertson HS Marr Gym – 2nd St. Entrance
• LVCS Administration Bldg. – 901 Douglas Ave.

Please note that Covid-19 restrictions are still in place so please maintain social distancing and other safety precautions.

Thank you,
Las Vegas City Schools Staff

Message from Las Vegas City Schools:

HIPAA is the acronym for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act that was passed by Congress in 1996. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a federal law that required the creation of national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient’s consent or knowledge. The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued the HIPAA Privacy Rule to implement the requirements of HIPAA. The HIPAA Security Rule protects a subset of information covered by the Privacy Rule.

Las Vegas City Schools is working diligently to minimize the risk to our staff and community during this novel Corona Virus outbreak. The district has worked with San Miguel County and hosted testing sights for the community on multiple occasions. Appropriate PPE and safety procedures when identifying COVID-19 can be viewed on our website. We can assure you we are working hand in hand with the Department of Health (DOH), San Miguel County Office of Emergency Services, El Centro Family Health Center, and are following DOH and Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines.

If and when a person is identified, as was the case on Thursday, the area must be closed for 24 hours. A 2nd 24 hour time frame is set to thoroughly clean and sanitize in order to reenter the area. According to the DOH Epidemiology Department, direct contact is defined as being within 6 feet or less for a time period of 3 minutes or more. It is the duty of the DOH investigator to call and identify direct contact. Direct contact deems a 14-day self-quarantine period. If you have not been called, that means you were not identified as being in direct contact.

Once an exposure has been reported, it is important to go back two days before for contact tracing. According to the DOH Epidemiology Department, the prior week of exposure is out of the question at this time. The district has let the community know which area was identified and will continue to do so. We thank you for your time and patience during this time.

Dear Las Vegas City Schools Family and Community:

Tragedy has struck within our community and the district is truly saddened by the loss of one of its members. It is very difficult especially when it effects our youth. A district counselor, Desiree Garcia, will be available to any student via email at [email protected] or by phone at 505-429-0196. Community members are welcome to place a memorial on the north side of the fence near the soccer field on Mills Avenue. Our deepest condolences to all families involved.

NMPED Family Survey

During this uncertain time, the New Mexico Public Education Department and your school leaders want to check in to see what else we can do to support you and your family.

By completing this survey, you are providing valuable feedback! We request an honest assessment of your family’s pre- and post-distance learning school experience. Your responses will help inform our planning and programming in the months to come.

This survey will ask for some demographic information about you and your child(ren). You can skip any item you don’t want to answer. The PED is deeply dedicated to equity, to meeting the needs of all students, and to ensuring all our communities have access to the information, resources, and opportunities needed to thrive. Toward that end, we’d like you to know a little more about your family to inform our ongoing outreach and engagement efforts. Please know that school leaders will not see your individual responses.

Thank you for your participation!

What will the school schedule be for Kindergarten and 2nd grade? Are the kids expected to be online all day long? I need to plan for work so any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I have been trying to drop off the registration packets at Central Office as was instructed by the district. There is nobody there and there are lots of rumors about the school being shut down because of a positive covid case . Can you at least communicate with the Public? If there is something going on, make a statement so people that have been in the potentially affected areas are aware. NMHU and the World College informed the public. Sweeping it under the rug does not help- even if it's a possible case let people know so they aren't out spreading it. Be part of the solution and not the problem.

Hello, how can I access work for my student?
I encountered a group of your students in Pratt Kansas today. I have to say they were fantastic - polite, young people. Kudos to you!
