Due to current public health orders, the NMAA has informed its member schools that all competitions scheduled for Saturday, October 10th have been cancelled. The NMAA is awaiting approval from the Governor’s office before decisions regarding next week’s events will be made.

Hello Parents and Students:

Las Vegas City Schools, in cooperation with several local entities, have setup an additional 7 locations around the Las Vegas Area for students to be able to access a Wi-Fi hotspot. These locations are:

• Tractor Supply Co. – 29 NM Hwy 518
• Enchanted Hills Mobile Home Park – 2701 7th St.
• Hanna Park – 445 Legion Dr.
• Monte Vista Apartment – 500 Mountain View Dr.
• Abe Montoya Recreation Center – 1751 N. Grand Ave.
• PNM Building – 420 Railroad Ave.
• Immaculate Conception Church – 811 6th St.

At these locations you will see a Las Vegas City Schools bus or other LVCS vehicle. Park as close as you can to the vehicle and on your device you will see the following two wireless networks:

• LVCS_Smartbus_2.4Ghz (better if you have to park far away as it has a longer range)
• LVCS_Smartbus_5Ghx (better if you can park close as it has less interference)

After selecting one of these two networks, enter the password, “Cardinals!” to connect.
Also remember that we still have the following location available as well:

• Old Memorial Middle School Parking Lot – 947 Old National Rd.
• Robertson HS Marr Gym – 2nd St. Entrance
• LVCS Administration Bldg. – 901 Douglas Ave.

Please be advised that during the Special Board Meeting on October 5, 2020, the Board of Education voted unanimously to remain in remote learning through the 1st semester.

Parents: teachers are available Wednesdays for Parent Teacher conferences if you need to discuss your child’s progress or express any concerns. Teachers are also available daily during their prep times. Please contact your child’s teacher or the school site to set up a time to meet.

Hello Parents and Students,

Las Vegas City Schools is offering free Wi-Fi to students at the following locations:

* Old Memorial Middle School Parking Lot – 947 Old National Rd.
* Robertson HS Marr Gym – 2nd St. Entrance
* LVCS Administration Bldg. – 901 Douglas Ave.

These locations will be available from 7:30am to 3:00pm M-F. When arriving at one of these locations, there is a Wi-Fi connection called “HomeworkHub.” This Wi-Fi connection does not require a password and will provide Internet access for our students.

Please note that Covid-19 restrictions are still in place so please maintain social distancing and other restrictions.

Also, we are working on adding additional sites around Las Vegas soon.

Message from Las Vegas City Schools:

HIPAA is the acronym for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act that was passed by Congress in 1996. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a federal law that required the creation of national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient’s consent or knowledge. The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued the HIPAA Privacy Rule to implement the requirements of HIPAA. The HIPAA Security Rule protects a subset of information covered by the Privacy Rule.

Las Vegas City Schools is working diligently to minimize the risk to our staff and community during this novel Corona Virus outbreak. The district has worked with San Miguel County and hosted testing sights for the community on multiple occasions. Appropriate PPE and safety procedures when identifying COVID-19 can be viewed on our website. We can assure you we are working hand in hand with the Department of Health (DOH), San Miguel County Office of Emergency Services, El Centro Family Health Center, and are following DOH and Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines.

If and when a person is identified, as was the case on Thursday, the area must be closed for 24 hours. A 2nd 24 hour time frame is set to thoroughly clean and sanitize in order to reenter the area. According to the DOH Epidemiology Department, direct contact is defined as being within 6 feet or less for a time period of 3 minutes or more. It is the duty of the DOH investigator to call and identify direct contact. Direct contact deems a 14-day self-quarantine period. If you have not been called, that means you were not identified as being in direct contact.

Once an exposure has been reported, it is important to go back two days before for contact tracing. According to the DOH Epidemiology Department, the prior week of exposure is out of the question at this time. The district has let the community know which area was identified and will continue to do so. We thank you for your time and patience during this time.

For the 2020-2021 school year, Las Vegas City Schools will be issuing out Chromebook for all of our students. As we will be doing at least the first 9 weeks of school online, LVCS strongly recommends that families plan to utilize the school issued devices. These devices have already been setup to be used for online learning and have been streamlined to make the online education process as simple as possible.

You will pick-up your devices from your child’s school on the following days. Below is the schedule showing when and where to pick-up devices.

• Memorial Middle School: Marr Gym parking lot (2nd St. entrance).
• Robertson High School: Marr Gym parking lot (2nd St. entrance).

The LVCS Information Technology staff will be onsite to issue the devices and information regarding the use of the devices. Parents/Guardians will need to be present in order to sign for delivery of the device. If you are unable to make it on the day your student’s school is scheduled, please contact the district IT department at 505-454-5730 to schedule an appointment to pick-up your student’s Chromebook.

Tragedy has struck within our community and the district is truly saddened by the loss of one of its members. It is very difficult especially when it effects our youth. The 2019-2020 school year is coming to an end. Due to COVID-19, our final semester has been one for the history books. We are required to stay at home, practice social distancing and have developed a new way of learning, Distance Learning. May 21, 2020 is the final day of school for our students. Report cards were mailed out with 3rd nine week grades.

Parent pick-up area on the north side of the school is designated for (trunk) item pick-up and drop-off. Scheduled pick-up time for student personal items and drop-off for classroom textbooks, library books and band instruments is as follows:

4th Grade Tuesday, May 26, 2020 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
5th Grade Wednesday, May 27, 2020 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
6th Grade Thursday, May 28, 2020 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Please encourage your child/children to continue utilizing I-Ready for Reading and Math enrichment during the summer break. Registration for upcoming school year has not been finalized, check district website for updates.
Students:

If you ever feel unsafe or uncomfortable while interacting with people online, tell a trusted adult immediately.

Don’t accept friend requests from people you don’t know or private message with strangers.

Keep personal information private, including name, address, phone number, and age.

Create secure passwords and keep them protected. Be sure to share passwords with parents or guardians only, not with friends.

Some important tips:

If you wouldn’t say or do something in person, then you shouldn’t do it online.

Under no circumstances will bullying of any kind be tolerated.

If you are harassed, tell a trusted adult immediately so it can be reported to your Internet Service Provider (ISP), school, and/or local law enforcement.

Save or print evidence of online harassment and other potential cases of cyberbullying.

Protect yourself and others by never responding to harassing or rude comments.

Know that online choices have offline consequences and in some cases, legal implications.

Don’t post information, photos, and/or videos that you will regret later.

Use digital etiquette (i.e., netiquette) and think before posting. Respect others online.

Memorial Middle School is scheduling two days for student pick up of personal items. In order to comply with the
Governors order and follow CDC guidelines there are assigned times and locations for students to pick up belongings.

There is nobody there and there are lots of rumors about the school being shut down because of a positive covid case . Can you at least communicate with the Public? If there is something going on, make a statement so people that have been in the potentially affected areas are aware. NMHU and the World College informed the public. Sweeping it under the rug does not help- even if it's a possible case let people know so they aren't out spreading it. Be part of the solution and not the problem.
