Today is International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. We're proud to highlight UNLV alumna Elena Nourrie and the incredible work she's doing to support LA's indigenous communities.

Co-founded by Nourrie, the So'oh-Shinálí Sister Project (SSSP) is a nonprofit that strengthens Indigenous communities across Los Angeles County through advocacy, wellness initiatives, cultural programming and community-building efforts.

With a graduate program that focused on policy and advocacy, Nourrie is now applying her knowledge to create opportunities for future generations.

On August 8, 1953, Western states came together through a new regional higher education partnership that would become WICHE.
Seventy-three years later, that spirit of collaboration is still at work across the West.
Nevada joined the compact in 1959. Today, the partnership continues to connect students and institutions with opportunities across state lines. 🎓

UNLV has created Nevada's first bachelor's degree program in insurance and risk management, and is now one of four major West Coast universities to offer it. As the insurance industry faces a major workforce shift, UNLV is helping build skilled professionals who are ready to meet future demand.
